When you start up career mode you will be shown a disc. This disc will have six songs to choose from on it. It's similar to the "groupings" in the Guitar Hero and Rock Band games where they try to make it so the songs get progressively harder, but you have a choice of what to play in what order.
Complete 3 of these six songs on any difficulty and you will get a gold rating. The gold rating has nothing to do with the difficulty you select. The difficulty is selected after you choose a song.
(If you're curious, completing all 6 songs will make it into a Platinum rating, again, independent of difficulty)
In short, it's story related, and you can't progress onto the next disc until you have completed at least three of the songs. |
