As always in this game, burn/destroy everything and walk everywhere to reveal all the yum-yum.
At the end of the 1st part (when the big beetle opens the door) you should have eaten 30 creatures.
At the river, once you eat the beetle do not rush through the forcefield.
Destroy all the rocks in the path behind you to reveal 2 more yum-yum and the snuffle.
33 creatures so far.
Then go back to destroy the forcefield and eat the remaining creatures in the 3rd area.

Before you get to the cutscene with the BIG beetle, you should have 30 eaten. After that cutscene, you can't go back to the first area, so make sure.
After you eat the small beetle, and BEFORE you break the large metal door in the water open, the Snuffle and 2 Yums are in those rocky areas, the Yums inside rocks, and the snuffle in a flower you can torch if you break the rock to the left of it.
You'll be big enough to leave at 38 eaten.
