The audio of the guitar in this song greatly overpowers the bass, so it may be difficult for some players to get down the pattern. I found it very helpful to turn off my TV's sound until right before the bass's riff during the solo (during which the audio helps to keep the rhythm), after which I turned it back off when the main riffs begin again.

The basic pattern is as follows: two strums followed by a triplet, repeated twice, and then two strums followed by three sets of triplets. Represented visually:
o -- o -- ooo
o -- o -- ooo
o -- o -- ooo -- ooo -- ooo

The solo riff: one strum followed two sets of alternating strums. Visual:
o -- oo -- oo
... repeated for basically the duration of the solo.

(Hyphens are meant to help format this arrangement and make it easier to distinguish between sections and patterns.)

These sections are important to nail for the star power they frequently contain. As shown in most YouTube videos, star power is primarily for the three-fret chords during the song's chorus. You must simply learn to hit the triplets that travel across several frets leading up to these chords in order to gain maximum points. I found it easier to strum all the notes rather than use any hammer-ons/pull-offs in the song.

By successfully receiving the greater portion of the star power sections and using it appropriately during the chords, and performing well on the solo riffs (the easiest part of the song IMO), you will not even need to worry about doing well during the messy sections between the song's main riffs and the chorus.
