In addition to the quick method outlined by "pincers1066"
If you intend to get the full 1K in this game then, this one is not an issue. There is so much "free roam" riding needed to get all the vista, liveries etc, that as long as you drive off the main roads and tracks, you will get to 500 faily quickly.
I found that i didn't even really need to look for them, if i saw a stack of 4 i slowed and went for it, but mostly i just spoted them as i was heading for the doppler trucks, etc and picked them up along the way, not super quick, but not a grind either. |

Here is the fastest way to get this achievement:
1. go to redrock
2. select the heli-port in the north (near the border)
3. after the chopper-szene go straight on to 4 oil drums
4. go to the menu and select the same heli-port again
5. these 4 oil drums are back
6. repeat this again and again and again |

| if you are having trouble finding oil drums there is a tip you can try, if you drive to the outside edge of the map and drive along just outside the border on the map you will find many drums, from what i can tell there is a sort of weaving path of drums around here making it easy to get many, i managed to get the achievement for getting 100 in under an hour using this method. |

| An easy way that I found was to find a helicopter pad with a few oil drums within half a mile the best one I found was the furthest North West one in Dry Rigs Zone this method took me roughly 45mins to get but also i got the achievement for using the Helicopter 100 times |

| You need to collect 500 oil drums, they are located all around the fuel world they are white drums with "Fuel" written on them. They come in stacks of one drum or four drums, ram them to get the fuel. There are more than 500 drums in the world so it is easy to get, and every time you reload your game the drums get reset and you can get them again. |
