By completing all of the main and side quests, you should reach around level 36 at the end of play through 1.

If possible, try and find a friend who has a level 50 character, and who has completed the Rakk Hive boss fight. Enter their game with your level 36 character and get them to kill the Rakk Hive for you around 3 times (everytime the game loads from menu screen, the Rakk Hive spawns).

Another option (and perhaps the more honest) is to simply start a second playthrough and complete missions with high XP.
