After picking the 3 characters you're going to take to the final boss fight with the Archdemon during the Denerim climax, you'll be faced with a number of battles through the Market District, the Alienage and the Royal Palace before arriving at Fort Drakon.
During these battles you have to ability to summon armies within the 'Advanced' section of the Radial Menu. To unlock this achievement, you must keep half of these armies alive and it unlocks upon arriving at Fort Drakon if I remember correctly. During the Archdemon fight you can use the armies as much as you want.
The most certain way to get this is to just not call out any of the armies. It's not even necessary on the easier difficulties anyway. |

The easiest way to get this achievement is to side with Branka on "Paragon of her kind" and choose to keep the Anvil of the void. This unlocks the use of Golems in the Final battle. Just use them as they kill stuff fast and can take alot of dmg.
*Side note* I got this by using the golems at the market, elves at the alienage, and the arl's soldiers at the palace on normal difficulty |

Since you can only pick one group at a time, I suggest you use the dwarves against the first wave in the market...the humans in the alienage and leave the mages and elves for the endgame.
I made it through the alienage and market only losing 5 total troops, and the cheevo dinged after Fort Drakon loaded up. |
