Captain's Rank requires a score on 9,000,001 in survival mode. This score is the sum of the in game score from destroying ships and collection the blocks, plus the ship and accuracy bonus you get after the end of the game. I got it with an ingame score of 5.25 million plus the bonuses, i made it well into wave 7 to get this score. It take a fair bit of practice to get this far. I used the fighter which the right thumbstick can be used to select the direction to fire in.

Here are a few tips based on my observations:

The bulk of the points will come from the blocks, the small blue blocks are worth 2,000, the larger blue blocks are 10,000, and the large purple blocks are 50,000.

The asteroids and large debris in the waves will drop a purple block when they break up. There are 2 in the first wave that are safe to fire and break up. In the second wave there are roundish green ships that pulse and blow up stuff around them when destroyed. Lure them near the 4 asteroids in this level. wave 3-5 star getting too busy to really worry about the asteroids. Wave 6 is like level 1 but with more ships you'll need to be careful with the asteroids.

The triangle shaped ships drop the best stuff. These should be a priority target. The large red and yellow ships are the biggest threast as their fire has a much greater range than your, try to take them out before too many of them warp in. For the most part i either fired ahead to clear a path or behind to at the ships chasing me will trying to weave around enemies fire. For the larger ships I fired more or less in the direction their fire was coming from.

Power ups can be used to your advantage. The glowing reds are either time slow or fire all which are the most useful. With time slow you can fly circles around the enemys while shooting at them and easily scoop up purple blocks. The fire all allows you to quickly cut through enemies.

The glowing orange pickups are less powerful. invulability let you get close to enemies for a few second an shoot the them. The repulsor burst is good for clearing on nearby ships. The home missiles are pretty weak and should be used up quickly. The impulse burst is worse than useless, head away from enemies and get rid of it.

if you can try to hold onto a fire all at the end of waves 3 and 4. Waves 4 and 5 are very tough and having on of these available at the beginning will help a lot.

The accuracy bonus is fairly critical to getting the achievement when you run out of lives in wave 7 with the score i did. Try to avoid firing when there are no enemies around. An earlier attempt where I got to 5.1 mill left me 450K shout because I fired constantly.

Will a bit (or in my case a lot) of practice you should get through the first three waves without dying. Wave 4 and 5 are a lot more challanging so do your best to stay alive as long as your can and taking out as many as possible. Things calm down in wave 6 but pick up again in wave 7. If you can make it this far and get enough purple blocks and a high enough accuracy bonus you should get the achievement.
