The key here is to kill animal species. It's been proved that the four legendary animals are NOT required for this. Also, you do not need to skin the animals, just kill them. I've taken out domesticated animals and put them in a separate group at the bottom.
To find out what you have killed, press Start > Stats > Misc
List:
Armadillo
Bear -Tanners Reach
Beaver - Northeast of the word Cochinay along the river. Also look south of Tall Trees in Bear claw camp (you have to zoom in real close to see the name, below Manzanita post).
Bighorn Sheep - Between Rattlesnake Hollw and Pleasance House
Boar - Can be found in pens at the most Nothern point on the map, in the snow mountains near an abandoned fort there.
Bobcat - Southwest Mexico, go to the bottom left corner of the map; around Escalera and Nosalida. Also found in the Northeastern part of the Great Plains.
Buffalo - Great Plains
Cougar - Southwest of Fort Mercer, Southeast of Repentance Rock
Coyote
Crow
Deer/Buck
Duck - South of Gaptooth Breach, west of the Scratching Post along the water line. Also found around Lake Don Julio.
Eagle - Tall Trees
Elk - Tall Trees
Fox - Tall Trees and Great Plains
Hawk
Horse - Wild
Owl
Rabbit
Raccoon - Must hunt at night as they are nocturnal, seen around Armadillo and packs in the Great Plains.
Seagull - Near Blackwater, you can hear its distinctive sound
Skunks - Around Armadillo
Snake - Found all over, be sure to listen for the rattle sound.
Songbird
Vulture - Kill something and they appear flying over the dead animal
Wolf
Domesticated Animals (not needed for the achievement)
Chicken - MacFarlane's Farm
Cow
Dog - At least one in every town
Donkey - Random mexicans riding donkeys
Pig
Goat - Mexican towns
Horse - Domesticated

You need to kill the following animals, domesticated animals do not count for the trophy, neither do bats.
* Armadillo: You can find these in the Frontier and in Mexico.
* Bears: You can find these in the Tall Trees area in the North.
* Beavers: These are in the Tall Trees area in the North.
* Bighorn: You can find this in the mountains in the Frontier and Mexico, and in abundance in the Tall Trees area of the North.
* Boars: You can find these in Pike's Basin and the Tall Trees area.
* Bobcats: You can find these in Mexico and the Tall Trees area.
* Buffalo: As you first enter the Great Plains from Thieves' Landing.
* Cougars: In the mountains and hills on the Frontier and Mexico.
* Coyote: On the Frontier and Mexico, listen for their whiny howls.
* Crows: All three areas, listen for their caws.
* Deer: All three areas
* Ducks: At Lake Don Julio at either side, they will be flying, listen for the distinctive "quack"
* Eagles: Tall Trees and Nikoti Rock areas of the North.
* Elk: Tall Trees area.
* Foxes: Near Riley's Charge on the Frontier and in the Tall Trees area in the North.
* Hawks: The Frontier and Mexico.
* Wild Horses: Any horse roaming any map that does not have a saddle on its back.
* Owls: All three maps, only at night.
* Rabbits: All three maps.
* Raccoons: All three maps.
* Seagulls: Blackwater near the water.
* Skunks: Around MacFarlane Ranch on the Frontier.
* Snakes: All three maps, listen for snake hissing or rattling while you are riding then check around on the ground.
* Songbirds: Near the twons on all three maps.
* Vultures: All three maps, usually near death.
* Wolves: All three maps, but in abundance in Mexico and the Tall Trees area.

Just this minute got this Achievement and here is the list of what I have got in my stats menu:
Armadillo - North of Armadillo
Bear - You can find these in Tall Trees
Beaver - You can find these west of Manzanita Post
Bighorn Sheep - South of Casa Madrugada/ Tall Trees
Boar - Tall Trees
Bobcat - Anywhere
Buffalo - Great Plains
Chicken (don't think this is needed for Achievement)
Cougar - Around Gaptooth Ridge/ Rio Bravo (Around fort mercer)
Coyote - Inbetween Gaptooth ridge and Cholla Springs
Crow - Anywhere
Deer - Close to where I said find the Coyote/ Tall Trees
Dog (don't think this is needed for Achievement)
Duck - South at Gaptooth Breach and west of The scratching post (look near the water)
Eagle - Seen in Tall Trees
Elk - Tall Trees
Fox - Tall Trees (Night time) Also near the scratching post (South of Gaptooth Ridge
Hawk - Anywhere
Domestic Horse (don't think this is needed for Achievement)

Too add to other solutions;
I have just unlocked this and in 'Stats: Misc' my total "Wild animal species killed" is at 26. Some of the other solutions don't list wild horses and it was only by chance I killed one messing around. |

To figure out which animals you have yet to kill, go to the start menu, then Stats, and under Miscellaneous you will find how many of each species you have killed. Those you have not killed yet will not be listed, so compare that list with the list on the wiki article above to find out which animals you have left to find towards your 20 G for Unnatural Selection. |

For anyone having trouble finding snakes, there is one that will always spawn outside the back door of your house in Beecher's Hope. You can hear its rattling sound if you walk around in that area. If you kill it and wander away and then come back, another one will spawn. I confirmed this when skinning 8 snakes for the Hunter outfit (DLC), it definitely works.
I apologize for this not being a complete solution, but I felt that the current solutions have massive amounts of comments and this might be hard for people to find if they need it. This is probably the hardest animal to find so I hope this helps some people. |

| I would like to add that I just got the achievement and I have only killed 24 species. the Buffalo and Vultures are not required for this achievement. I have not killed either of those animals and got it. |

Just a little headsup, because I know I had a huge problem finding an eagle in the game and nobody really mentioned it before, I think.
There's one during the quest "At Home with Dutch" when you climb up the hill. It'll be sitting at a path you need to walk, so be careful not to shoo it away. |

| Just to back up every person's list as I worked my way through but I got the achievement after taking out my first beaver, but before killing any seagulls so it's possible seagulls don't count for the achievement, or that you only need 26 of the 27 possible animals. |

This achievement's not too hard to do since you can check what you're doing in the stats menu on the pause screen. The maps in-game and the one that comes in the game are very helpful. Your horse will also react differently to smaller animals such as snakes, armadillos, and rabbits so keep your eyes and ears on your horse.
BEWARE of downloading the free dlc that comes with the two outfits and the jackalope because in order for the achievement to unlock you'll have to kill the jackalope too, and it's a pain in the ass finding it since they can spawn just about anywhere at random. |
