I have not yet obtained this achievement but I have some pretty good tips I would like to share.
First: play through the campaign on normal first so you get a feel for the game, I don't care if you are the greatest side-scroller gamer ever, playing through lets you know what to expect, gets you the weapons, and lets you develop your favorite move set and stragegies before tackling hard.
Second: Prepare to die, it's going to happen. Either from being overwhelmed or just doing something as stupid as missing a jump and falling to your doom. In hard mode if you die some point in the level, you will start all over from the BEGINNING of the level. BUT! IF YOU MAKE IT TO THE BOSS AND YOU DIE DURING THE BOSS, YOU WILL NOT START OVER, AND JUST RESUME FROM THE BOSS FIGHT. so not all is lost.
Third: DO NOT GET SURROUNDED. You will die. When you get to an area and enemies start a-comin' preferably have them coming from one direction, and don't get surrounded especially by dogs in the early levels, they are a pain to get off and should be taken out with top priority. I shall next discuss the best choices of weapons, when to use different ones, and best strategies for different enemies.
Fourth: Weapons and Strategies.
ANY enemy with a gun MUST be taken out first, unless there are dogs, then probably target the dogs first. All that is different in hard is that enemies just have a tid bit more health, I haven't noticed any increased damage that I receive.
Anyway, for enemies with guns, remember, POUNCING is your best friend, it is because Shank can take time from his busy day when pounced on an enemy to shoot anyone around them, just pounce an enemy, and hold the thumbstick in a direction (of an enemy) and press B, Shank will shoot whoever is near you, all the while keeping the poor sod pinned down, wont last forever. What I do is pounce basic attack, then shotgun anyone near then finish them off.
SHOTGUN is the best weapon, since it can knock people back and if you do that charge attack where you rush and do multiple shotgun attacks at once is the best for dogs and big dudes.
CHAINS should always be equipped. The reason why is that big dudes cannot be pounced but grabbed. If you grab a big dude and press y and tap y, then you shall proceed to choke them, and it wont last forever, but if there are people shooting at you, and you have the big person between you and the shooter, FRIENDLY FIRE DOES EXTRA DAMAGE! and the big dudes will be no problem.
Minigun guys and flamethrower guys i would suggest saving your grenades for them. Also don't forget grenades can be lobbed, just press up and throw grenade, Shank will lop a grenade high up, so if there are enemies above you and you need to get rid of them fast, just lob a grenade up there.
Pistols should ONLY be equipped when shooting guys above you that wont come down as they make quick work of them, AND for the train boss and I shall tell you why now. (don't ever equip the UZI it sucks balls)
BOSSES:
Each boss has their own weakness, some are easy. The two I predict that will give you trouble will be the train boss and the final boss. Lucky for you I found an easy way for the train boss.
FIRST: stay up top of the train, the whole top is the safest area of the train, when the guy starts shooting grenades, stand somewhere near the backish (not all the way back, probably just a little after the highest point of the top of the train) then use your pistols and just spam B, Shank will shoot any grenades that might come to harm him. (note: sometimes a grenade or two might make it through, just giving you a heads up) the grenades will kill any of the guys that spawn, grab the grenades the guy drops but DONT throw them when the guy is lobbing grenades at you, its too dangerous. WAIT until the jeep goes out and the guy starts shooting RPGs at you, go to the front of the top of the train, jump and throw grenades for extra distance until your grenades are out then retreat to the VERY back of the top of the train, no rpgs will get you there, one hit me once but didn't do much damage. Then stay there when the guys spawn and start spamming B, shank will weaken the enemies, sometimes killing them sometimes not, I just think it helps. Then rinse and repeat, took me about 4 tries to get the process down and perfect.
MOST IMPORTANT, Be PATIENT! these type of games when playing on hardest difficulty require alot of patience, I haven't really employed use of my block yet, doesn't really seem like a useful thing, I only use it to dodge out of the way of enemies.
Fun facts to keep you sane:
1. if there's one dude left, pounce him and strange him, nothing better than watching your enemies suffocate after ten of his buttbuddies just tried to own you with miniguns....
2. always pounce and strangle the white enemies....because any other enemies would be racist and people would get offended here.
3.Grab big guys in a group and shove a grenade in his throat. the resulting explosion will be cool, AND damage enemies around him, also weaking the big guy alot.
4.There will probably be released soon how to keep a mini gun with you on certain areas of the game, looks like it can be done.
In summary:
-Take your time
-Remember where the health is, you can sometimes backtrack to a health and get it again, if you don't need it, dot use it. you never know, you just might 3 steps later.
-The CHAINS and SHOTGUN will be your best friends.
-Use Shanks shotgun charge move where he shoots like 4 shotgun attacks in succession, it does alot of damage and knocks people back.
-You will die, and have to restart, and it usually happens right just before the boss too, it will happen. The sooner you accept the fact the better.
