SebastianSB's guide is excellent if you have the Rock Band 2 20-pack, however if you are new to the franchise with Rock Band 3, you will not have access to those songs.
If this is the only DLC achievement you care about for RB3, you can get 20 songs for a fair price by buying a new copy of any of the following track packs and performing the free export included with the game:
Rock Band Track Pack Vol. 2 (20 songs) Rock Band Track Pack: Classic Rock (20 songs) Rock Band Country Track Pack (21 songs) Rock Band Metal Track Pack (20 songs) Rock Band Country Track Pack 2 (21 songs) Rock Band Blitz (25 songs)
There is also AC/DC Live: Rock Band Track Pack, which contains only 18 songs. Readers have confirmed that these tracks also count as DLC, however you will need to supplement your collection with two of the available free songs.
Track Packs can be found in most stores for $20. That's about a dollar per song, which is cheaper than the $26-40 you'd spend tracking down 20 songs in the in-game store.
Rock Band Blitz is the most cost effective way to complete this achievement, as it normally costs 1200 MSP ($15) to download from the Marketplace. Thanks to the comments section for confirming this!
Unfortunately, songs from Rock Band, Rock Band 2, and LEGO Rock Band do not count as DLC. Commenters have also confirmed that songs from Green Day Rock Band do not count as DLC. So even if you have those exports you will require additional songs.
European commenters, however, have confirmed the 6 bonus songs included in the export from their version of Rock Band count as DLC and can be applied towards these achievements. These songs are:
"Beetlebum" - Blur "Countdown to Insanity - H-Blockx "Hysteria" - Muse "Manu Chao" - Las Wampas "New Wave" - Pleymo "Perfekte Welle" - Juli
If you are a completionist, you can complete several other DLC achievements while building your DLC library up to the required 20 songs. By overlapping achievements, you can save yourself some serious time and money.
(4 songs) - Start by downloading all of the free songs in the store. Four of them are needed for "Live Free or Die"
"Charlene (I'm Right Behind You)" - Stephen and the Colberts "Headphones On" - Miranda Cosgrove "Still Alive" - Glados "Promised Land" - Vesuvius
Also download the additional free tracks that do NOT count towards "Live Free..." As of Oct. 27, 2012 there are only 3:
"Am I Crazy" - Little Fish "Dreaming of Love" - Lights Resolve "Rock Band Network Megamix 01" - Various Artists
Now you need 13 more DLC songs, which is easily done as you download 17 additional tracks to complete the following achievements:
(1 song) - Sort by artist in the music store, and buy any one song from Queen. It can be used for both of these achievements.
(1 song) - Sort by artist in the store and buy any one song from Boston. If you used exported the Classic Rock Track Pack, you will already have two in your library ("Peace of Mind" and "Rock and Roll Band").
(1 song) - Sort by song title and find "The Perfect Drug" by Nine Inch Nails. If you peformed the export for Track Pack Vol. 2, this song will already be in your library.
(3 songs) - There are many bands that work with this achievement, consult it's TrueAchievement page for more info. The best examples are Freezepop and Bang Camero, both of which have songs available in the music store for 80 MSP each. In the in-game store, you can navigate to Packs and find "Harmonix Pack 01". This pack only costs $3 and contains 3 songs that will qualify for the achievement: "Rock Rebellion", "Shake", and "Sprode".
(4 songs) - Since you bought "The Perfect Drug" earlier, you now only need 4 more songs to complete this achievement. From the music store, sort by artist and look for any of the following groups:
Garbage Foo Fighters Nine Inch Nails Nirvana Queens of the Stone Age Tenacious D Them Crooked Vultures
(3 songs) - For this you need to download 3 songs that are classified as both 80s, and Metal. You can either check this achievements TA page for more info, or if you are in the Music Store, select the option to categorize the songs by genre. Locate "Metal", and begin scrolling through the list. Each song's data will be displayed on the left side, which will include decade. Buy any three that are listed as "1980s".
There you have it, 9 achievements for the "price" of one. Along the way, you will also complete the achievements for beating 1, 5, and 12 DLC songs. That should finish off DLC Pack 1. |

All Rock Band DLC and Rock Band Network songs work for this achievement.
List of free songs you could use for this: (click any song for download link)
GLaDOS - Still Alive Lights Resolve - Dreaming of Love Little Fish - Am I Crazy Miranda Cosgrove - Headphones On Stephen and the Colberts - Charlene (I'm Right Behind You) Various Artists - Rock Band Network Megamix 01 Vesuvius - Promised Land
A few of the above songs may not be available in some countries.
20 Free Songs Pack (requires purchase of NEW copy of Rock Band 2):
The 88 - Sons and Daughters Authority Zero - No Regrets Between the Buried and Me - Prequel To The Sequel The Cab - Bounce Chevelles - Get It On The Cocktail Slippers - Give It To Me Dealership - Database Corrupted Endeverafter - I Wanna Be Your Man The Ghost Hounds - Ashes To Fire Hollywood Undead - Young Kutless - The Feeling The Len Price 3 - If I Ain't Got You Lesley Roy - I'm Gone, I'm Going Opiate for the Masses - Burn You Down Semi-Precious Weapons - Magnetic Baby Shaimus - Like a Fool Thenewno2 - Crazy Tuesday Tickle Me PinkThe Time Is Wrong Underoath - Desperate Times, Desperate Measures X Japan - I.V.
If you don't already have enough DLC for these achievements I recommend doing all of the other DLC achievements first. Several of them require specific songs or songs from certain lists, so you'll end up getting much closer to 20 songs by the time you finish them. New copies of the various track packs (AC/DC, Country, TP2, Metal, etc) can also all be exported for free from any non-used copies. Any of them would give you more than enough songs for this achievement. |
