I had a lot of trouble with this achievement at first as I was attempting to go for the US Championship. So I began to experiment, and found a much easier way.

-Go to My WWE and click "Team Management".
-Delete all teams besides the WWE Unified Tag Team Champions
-Create a new team with your created character and someone good like Undertaker or Randy Orton.
-Simulate a few weeks of WWE Universe and you'll almost definitely wind up booked in a contenders match. Play it and win.

P.S. If you suck at tag matches like I do, go to match creator right before the match starts and make it a First to a Finisher match with Momentum Gain on Fastest. Super easy!
