You can get this achievement very early. Like, very, very early. Your crafting command should be on your R-Trigger palette by default. At least it is for a mage. As soon as you get Elfroot and a Deep Mushroom, you can craft Mabari Crunch.

There's really not much more I can add that would be helpful, I just wanted to let you all know you can get this achievement very early and what items to look for to get it.

EDIT #1: Apparently my solution here only works for a Mage (tho you can likely get it with Morrigan once you aquire her to your party). So here's a method for a d0rf (dwarf) posted by BiG PaPa ChIlL in the comments section:

"Didn't find this too helpful seeing this is if you are a mage only. I was a dwarf and couldn't just do this.

"Anyways for those looking for more help if you're a dwarf hold LT for the menu and got to potions. From there go to herbalism and anything that is in color you should be able to make using things you have found. If you make it past the first 2 quests you should easily have the items to make something"

Thanks for the info and if anyone else is having issues with either of these, please post a solution on how you got this achievement. Alternatively, you can just post in the comments of this solution and I will gladly update it with full credit given to you. Thanks again!

EDIT #2: Here's a tip from Skadi And Omega. In fact, this is what I'd actually recommend doing because it allows you to use something more useful for your main character. Here's Skadi And Omega's advice:

"You can of course just use LB/RB to select Morrigan and use Herbalism (if you don't have it), my Elf didn't. Just a tip for anyone not finding the option on their main character, achievement still pops if you use other party members."

Thanks for pointing that out, Skadi And Omega. I meant to come back and update this a while ago but completely forgot. I wrote the solution when the game was new and didn't notice this until a little later in the game.

I hope this clears up any confusion for people. This video also helps out for the pilgrim achievement as well. Fairly easy achievement to get.

This achievement is very easy to get right after the origin story when you go to Ostagar with Duncan. I chose Warrior class, so other solutions requiring a Mage did not apply to me.
After meeting Alistair, go back to Duncan and speak to him about the Joining. You will then have a party consisting of Alistair, Daveth, and Jory.
Daveth is the one we want to switch to as our Player Character because he has a Level 1 Poison-Making skill. Now all you have to do is buy one of the required recipes and ingredients for a Level 1 Poison crafting item (either "Venom" or "Deathroot Extract" are both available from the Quartermaster right in Ostagar).
To see which ingredients you need; first make sure that Poison-Making is mapped to Daveth's battle menu shortcuts, then press the appropriate button to bring up the Poison-Making menu. Scroll down to whichever Poison recipe you purchased from the Quartermaster to see which ingredients you need to buy in order to craft an item (1 Toxin Extract and 1 Flask for "Venom"; 1 Deathroot and 1 Flask for "Deathroot Extract").
Now all you have to do is buy the necessary ingredients from the Quartermaster, make sure you are controlling Daveth, and then press the appropriate button on Daveth's battle menu shortcuts to once again bring up the Poison-Making menu.
Scroll down to the "Poison-Making" recipe you previously purchased with the correct ingredients, press the "A" button to Create Item, and once the item is created the achievement will pop.
Quick, easy, and relatively painless as none of the items are terribly expensive, and you can even load a previous save once you have the achievement if you want your money back.
This method is confirmed to work, as I just got the achievement myself this way. I used the "Deathroot Extract" recipe, but the "Venom" recipe should work just as well.
