2. General hints and tips
In order to win or to progress in this game, you are to capture a set number of towns or to be the holder of the most towns when the time runs out. In order to capture a town you must move your ship beside it, and you will attack each other which will end with one of you two being the victor. If you win, you have successfully captured that town.
There is also an achievement for capturing a town which had it's defenses destroyed by enemy ships. You must NOT do a single bit of damage to it in order to get the achievement. This can be easily boosted with a friend.
Capture a neutral town after the enemy has destroyed its defenses.
It is not that simple though. There are numerous things that have an effect on the game such as powerups, upgrades, and obviously the enemy teams. Powerups are dropped on the map when a neutral ship is destroyed. You can then pick it up and use it however you like. The powerups include: Bomb, Ghost, Whirlpool, and Material theft. The bomb you can place anywhere on the map, and like all bombs, it will greatly damage what is around it. There is an achievement for finishing off an enemy or neutral town's defenses with a bomb.
Destroy a neutral or enemy town’s defense with a bomb.
There is also an achievement for destroying two enemy ships with one bomb. If you are having difficulties achieving this by yourself, this is easily achieved by playing with a friend whom has two contollers. You will need to get multiplayer achievements later, so you can do it then.
Sink two enemy ships with a single bomb.
The whirlpool powerup teleports any ship that goes on top of it to a random place on the map. There is an achievement for using this powerup to teleport an enemy ship who is attacking one of your towns.
Use a whirlpool curse to teleport an enemy that is attacking your town.
Ghost ship makes your ship invisible for a short amount of time. This isn't very useful unless you playing online. The reason being the AI completely ignore you anyways unless you are trying to attack one of thier towns.
Lastly, the material theft powerups steals your enemy's materials and gives them to you to use however you like. This is useful when trying to upgrade your ship or towns.
It is also noteworthy that upgrading your ship costs 2 wood and 4 rum. To do a town upgrade costs 2 wood and 4 coins.
Good Luck!
