2. General hints and tips
The key to this game is understanding that even the most highly armoured unit is completely useless. The name of the game is damage and shields.
The unit configuration that's best for 99% of the game is the following:
Crawler, Shield, Crawler, Crawler, Shield, Support
Purchase order and upgrade path may vary depending on the needs of the level and available funds but are relatively consistent.
Purchase/Upgrade order:
1. Crawler
2. Shield
3. Upgrade Crawler (or buy 2nd Crawler)
4. Upgrade Crawler
5. Buy 2nd Crawler (or if already purchased upgrade 1st crawler)
6. If possible, upgrade 1st crawler to max level, if not, upgrade 2nd Crawler
7. Upgrade 2nd Crawler
8. Upgrade 2nd Crawler (if already done, upgrade 1st Crawler to max)
9. Upgrade 2nd Crawler to max
10. Upgrade Shield to max
11. Purchase 3rd Crawler, Shield, Support in any order
12. Upgrade Support to max
13. Upgrade Shield to 2nd level
14. Upgrade Crawler to max
15. Upgrade Shield to max
Rinse and repeat for just about every level. There's the odd level where you're given specific units and you need to make do but it doesn't happen often.
Dealing with towers:
Blasters - a single shot from a maxed out Crawler is all it takes to deal with these.
Scorchers - Smoke grenades hide your units to an extent, this is the best strategy for them, though the moment your units fire they can be targeted.
Behemoths - Walk behind them as your units approach, you'll take some damage and may die (you have unlimited lives) but it'll take time for them to swing around to target the approaching units. Once they're about to take out the shields, drop a decoy.
Stormray - These caused me the most trouble, they can rip through multiple units pretty quickly. Most abilities will work on surviving these towers, though I'd avoid using air strikes on them as it takes 2 to fully destroy them.
Hackers/Energizers - Run in right away and use air strikes on them until they're dead. Take out Energizers first and then Hackers.
