Rough Start to the "Winter"
Well I finally finished Mafia II. For those of you who missed out on that blog, let me recap the pain. I downloaded Mafia II for the 360 when it was free for Games with Gold. I really enjoyed the game, the base game was a pretty easy 100%. There were two DLC's that came out which included a few grindy achievements. I was able to get all of them except for one: Driving a total of 1,000 miles in Jimmy's Vendetta DLC. This achievement would take hours upon hours to get. Fortunately, there was a glitch where you could leave the controller plugged in while your car fell through the map and recorded miles at a fraction of the pace of driving. While preparing to get this achievement, my hard drive crashed. I lost all of the games and saves on it, including Mafia II. I couldn't make room on my other hard drives to download the base game and the DLC's. Determined to complete the game, I bought a copy of the Platinum Edition on Amazon (which inluded the DLC's) for $20, let it glitch while at work, and had it completed just in time for Mafia III to come out! On an unrelated note, would anyone like to buy my barely used copy of Mafia II? Check Amazon!
With that out of the way, I'm mopping up Saint's Row 4 and NFS Rivals. I was hoping to get those 100%'d before starting Mafia III but I couldn't wait anymore. I've put a few hours into Mafia III and I've really enjoyed it so far. I think so far that it's done a good job of nailing the time period, and I appreciate when games use music to do that. I've already added a few songs to my iTunes library. My only complaint so far: can game programmers just agree that they will all use the 'Y' button to get into cars now? Holding 'X' to enter a car is just messing with my mind after years of playing GTA.Cop
The winter months have gotten off to a rough start. An infant died after getting into their stepfather's drugs in their hotel apartment. It affected just about everyone at the department and puts a lot of things into perspective. I also got held in one morning (when we don't have enough officers to cover a shift, officers from the previous shift will be forced to work it) and was pretty pissed that I had to work another 8 hours and cancel my plans for the day. However, the shift started with having to comfort a woman who just watched her husband die after having a heart attack, so that shut me up pretty quick. Add to that the problems we've been having at a rap club that has been nothing but trouble since opening up, it's been a rough start.
