Gears of war 2's DLC has been somewhat overpriced the last few times, however that's about to change.........
Dark corners was released a while ago, and this review is just a lil' bit late, so sorry about that.
This DLC adds 7 new multiplayer maps and a deleted scene.
Road to ruin is a deleted scene that takes place after Dom's emotional moment. Before you start the chapter, there is a video of the legendary cliffy B stating that this is definitely a deleted scene and not an expansion. After that you are given a choice: guns blazing or stealth?
If you choose guns blazing, then you go on a crazy rollercoaster ride full of gunfire and explosions that is still fun, but just a little repetitive; however if you choose stealth then it's a different story.
The stealth, unfortunately, is very clunky and not very innovative. You pick up some Theron armour, and continue while locust don't suspect a thing. The bad thing is all you have to do is keep your distance, and not creep around in shadows like I thought you would.
Eventually you run into an ''old friend'' from Gears of war 1, and he looks very different.
Luckily that wasn't the only thing that's included! there are 7 multiplayer maps too.
Allfathers garden-This map is one of the most visually stunning maps I've seen in a gears game, I love it's setting. It's set late a t night near the sea in a park of sorts. It's A-symmetrical and perfect for sniper battles.
Highway-This is set in the deep Locust hollow. It's quite a big map, A-symmetrical, and is very good at hiding frag mines. The coolest feature of this map is that every 2-3 minutes, a Brumak and a horde of locust come marching through a highway in the background, Hence the name
Memorial-This map is probably my least favourite. It's set near Jacinto and is very bright and open. Snipers are probably highly in favour of this map.
Nowhere-One of the more unique maps as it is set in the desert. The area is full of cars, and smaller buildings. It's great for people who like to use the Mulcher and Mortar weapons as there is a roof top that is quite easy to get to. My favourite feature of this map is that every few minutes there is a sand storm that acts as great cover when trying to flank enemies.
Sanctuary-A remake of a map that was only available for Gears of war(PC), this map feels very old and authentic. It's set in a graveyard and so i think you can guess what the cover is. The Torque bow and Longshot rifle are your best friends in this map.
War Machine-A remake of a map from Gears of war, it feels really quite great to be back here, however they're removed the Troika turret and replaced it with a Mulcher which i was quite sad about.
It's really fun to play horde on this map.
Way station-Also set in the locust hollow, this map is quite dark and feels like a torture barge and is covered with those mini gaskets that locust put prisoners in. There is a button that cause a bridge to form over the lava river.
If you don't have dark corners and missing any other map packs. I highly suggest you pay an extra 400 MSP and get all the other map packs in the all fronts pack.
The all fronts pack includes:
Flashback DLC-5 multiplayer maps
Combustible DLC-3 multiplayer maps
Snowbound DLC-4 multiplayer maps
Dark Corners DLC-7 multiplayer maps and Road to ruin.
All that for 1600 MSP is a brilliant deal if you ask me.
