I saw this on iMDB and i would like to see how you guys answer this, what would you have as the opening scene to the Bioshock film?
Personally, I would go for a monologue from Andrew Rian explaining why he created Rapture. |

Either as you said, a monologue would be pretty cool.
Or an ominous look around Rapture, slowly going to a close up of a plane, crashing down and a slight glimmer from Andrew's office, then hearing the monologue as you see our hero escape the wreckage. |

That's a tough one... Probably on a plane.
I really hope this turns out well. I loved the first Bioshock. And although I just couldn't get into the sequel, I still like the concept. I am anxiously awaiting the third, as I understand it #3 is being made by the same team that did the first.
Anyway, I would hate to see a crappy movie adaption smear mud on the IP... |

But the film will either be awful or amazing. Making it amazing will be very difficult. |

| The same way the first game starts, but with a little more carnage, all the while not letting on that jack made the plane go down.. |

Remember that fella from the surface in Bioshock 2 looking for his daughter? I forget his name (Cindy was his daughter I think), but there was an ARG before 2 came out detailing his search for her and his discovery of Rapture.
Mark Meltzer, that's it.

| White lab coated professor in a classroom. "Under the sea" playing on a radio. Stranger talks to the professor about "The opportunity of a lifetime." prof about to shoo away stranger while unable to strike a match for cigarette when stranger snaps fingers and cigarette is lit. Prof looks in wonder and background fades to bathsphere. Fade to prof in bathsphere going gown to rapture. (see the city) Fade to prof in lab messing with plasmids tiny explosion made prof shield face from smoke. background fades to prof mid revolution smoke is from grenade snapping his fingers and lightning popping. (prof looks bit gaunt and dirty) background fades again to dark hallway prof sprinting with wrench in hand (now very gaunt) only to be smashed with big daddy drill, music cuts abruptly as prof. Big daddy proceeds to stomp as camera zooms out as through window showing city below and title bars fade in above. |

The beginning should be Ryan telling Sullivan of his dream of a utopia.
That's what happens in the book, anyway. |

| Yeah, I like the sound of the monologue as well, or a slow look around rapture with some contrasting music playing, like a happy fifties or sixties era song. Something like that. |

Maybe let the actor float around in the ocean abit longer on the planes wing or so, before he spots the tower (we see it as if the director's trying to convince us it's an optical illusion). If the director, and ofcourse the actor, is good enough, the atmosphere can be made quite eerie seeing a tower in the middle of a vast ocean.
After that, I would have everything the same as the games intro (except overhearing the first dialoge), and not hearing anything from... I can't remember his name, until after the turret has spooked away the first splicer. |
