Or for you tougher gamers, maybe just made you well up a little bit. I saw an article in GameInformer about playable characters that died permanently during the game. I thought it might be interesting to see what character deaths most upset the serious gamers here on this site. Don't limit it to playable characters though. If an NPC death really shook you up, let us know.

*****Spoilers*****

I don't know about you guys, but I may have swiped away a tear or three at John Marston's last stand in Red Dead Redemption. My daughter really did shed a few at the fate of Fang and Vanille at the end of Final Fantasy XIII. And I was totally shocked and upset about having to kill Lucy at the end of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood.

cry

Which one's made you guys the most sad and upset?

Lucy in AC: Brotherhood surprised me, but I'm not entirely sure it will be the last we see of her. Wiping out the Brotherhood of Steel in Fallout: New Vegas made me feel terrible and Roman's death in GTA IV was a shame.

FFIV - multiple deaths. It's almost something you start to expect in FF games now, but basically half of the characters you control die in this game.

I can also add Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. Your companion through the whole game Montblanc (a cute moogle) (He also appear in FFXII) may actually die in the last battle if you're unlucky and you'll get another ending. So it's actually an optional death, and thereby a bit more shocking.

actually only tellah dies, the other 4 characters are just unplayable after you lose them.

but the compainion cube in portal was horrible (which is why the ending of portal 2 makes me happy ^_^ )

omg spolierzzzz!!!!....I would like to participate in this thread but maybe a word of advice...for those of us that don't want to have a game spoiled...maybe you can start off with the name of the game then leave a couple of spaces and then write the names. For example:

Red Dead Redemption

John marshton. One of the few characters that i grew attached too I hate the guy who killed them it was a sad scene.

At least his was quick. His brother in GoW2 was gruesome, to say the least. I wonder if there will be Carmine III biting it in the new game.

Mafia 2

In Mafia 2 when Joe Barbaro died at the end brought a tear to my eye. He went back for you at the end and helped you win that battle but the godfather had him killed. The end cutscene was vary emotional.

Scarecrow in Batman AA, atleast I think croc killed him!

Other then that and like many, John Marston in RDR. Also the bald chief in Gears 1 that Marcus replaces. Wasn't expecting that so early in the game.

Speaking of Gears, Tai committing suicide was a real gut-wrencher.
