I've completed my first playthrough on Veteran with Ashley and Kaiden as my squadmates, and I've obviously unlocked the path to level 60.

The question I have about that is this - does that level 60 plateau "unlock" only work for that character or is it unlocked for every character created after that? More specifically, am I basically required to do a second playthrough with the same character to get to level 60? On this playthrough, I'm taking the time to weaken turrets, Armatures, Colossals, and Thresher Maws with the Mako and finishing them off myself to get more XP, but I'm wondering if it's even worth it if I have to play another Game+ to get levels 51-60. That would make four complete playthroughs of the story to get the 1000 GP in this game. Yuck.

Don't get me wrong here, I love this game, but I really hate it when developers require multiple playthroughs to get all the achievements. If I want to do another playthrough as another character to "try out" the skills and gameplay of that other character, that should be MY choice, not the developers.

Yes. If you start a new character you start from level 1 again. When you start a new game with the same character, you have everything you had before, plus a duplicate of each item. If I remember correctly though, it was just the weapons and armor on mine.
You should also try bumping it up to Hardcore diffuculty this time if/when you start a new game with your character, it's A LOT funner imo.

I'll try that - how much does that affect the XP you earn going from Veteran to say, Insane?

I haven't actually started the second playthrough with that character yet - I started a new Engineer character on a completely new game.

Oh ok lol. You can't get Insane until you beat it on Hardcore. But there isn't much difference in XP, it's mostly that the enemies has certain weaknesses that you have to figure out in order to take them out quickly. A lot of them seem like, impossibly strong if you aren't using the right ammo/upgrade at the time. Also there are A LOT more enemies clap

I'm actually looking forward to Insane. I'll be playing that with Wrex and Liara. Right now, I'm doing Hardcore with Garrus and Tali, and while I've only done Noveria to the point of getting the Renegade Glitch (and rescuing Liara), I have hardly done any of the main story at all. I just hit Level 30, and I'm trying to kill everything (including Thresher Maws, Armatures and Colossus') myself instead of doing it from the Mako. It's REALLY nice to see the 1000+ XP popup when you kill a Thresher Maw by your own hand. :-)

I've started my Insanity run and there's a big difference coming from Hardcore (on that diff. I barely noticed a difference compared to normal). A lot of enemies have immunity and I don't feel like going into the menus every encounter to see if a different type of ammo is more effective. I've gotten used to playing this game on auto pilot for a while, so it's a big change :p

And yeah, there really are a TON of extra enemies
