Details on the new Archenemy mode and new cards
A lot of information has been pouring out in the last week regarding the upcoming Magic: The Gathering Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012 which is due for release June 15th on XBLA. You can check out the trailer here or learn what is inside one of the Planeswalker's decks.
You have a third option if you so choose, which is to continue reading as I display some new screenshots and then explain the new play mode, Archenemy:

The official title of this image is "Faultline played", so hopefully this means some more exciting dynamic effects for the spells

....now this is different. Hopefully means the "basic" unlocks such as Kraken's Eye will come as a set instead of one by one

That last "Card Unlock" image of the Dungrove Elder deserves some more detail. Dungrove Elder appears in Magic: DotP 2012 a full three weeks before it will appear in card form. Dungrove Elder was a preview card for Magic 2012 just this past Monday.
The other image of note that I wish to elaborate on is this one from the new play mode, Archenemy:
http://i1111.photobucket.com/albums/h465/DogOfThunder36....jpg
Archenemy is a One vs. Many play style, with one team comprised of up to 3 players each using a standard, 60 card deck and taking turns Two-Headed Giant style. The other player assumes the "Archenemy" role and plays with a standard 60 card deck, 40 starting life, always goes first and draws a card on their first turn in addition to a 20 card deck of special schemes.
At the start of the Archenemy main phase, that player (or the AI in the case of Magic: DotP 2012) will reveal a scheme. Some, such as the revealed "Approach My Molten Realm" are persistent throughout the turn until a new scheme is drawn, others are immediate actions:

Some schemes are ongoing:

Ongoing schemes remain in play until the criteria is met for the card to be removed. For example, Imprison This Insolent Wretch will be removed when the target is attacked or targeted by a spell or ability.
Only four Archenemy sets exist with the physical card game, so it will be interesting to see if scheme decks repeat or if each Planeswalker has their own scheme deck. Especially since, well, you can take a look at the length of the Archenemy campaign yourself:

Magic: The Gathering Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012 will be available June 15th from the Xbox LIVE Marketplace. |

| I loved the first one and this looks to be even better than this one, crossing my fingers that decks have more customization options. |

| kool, I enjoyed the last one, but I got it recently and thought it was worth the discounted price. I probably won't buy this full price. |

| Looking forward to this a lot. The first one got me back into actual paper Magic and even though it is a money-sink, I have made some great friendships and stories in the past year since I returned. |

Still no Planeswalker cards though... Though I do like the archenemy battles. Will be very interesting! |
That certainly wasn't there at the start of the poll. |

Just wanted to say, great rundown, Dog of Thunder.
As someone who loves MtG but doesn't really keep up with it, I enjoyed reading your observations and explanations. They were very helpful.
Time to dig out the first DotP in anticipation! |

| Looks good and I'm sure I will get it, but it looks so much like the earlier game, it sort of feels like a rip off. Hopefully I'm wrong though. |

Hopefully this one lets you do it.It won't. The beginner gamer is what these games are aimed at, they aren't going to let someone make a deck that can't win. And it was also said before there won't be any customization. |
Pardon me, do you have any Grey Poupon? |

| Schemes? Wow I've been out of the MtG scene for a long time. |
