More games, more platforms, more players, more fun
In a press release available on their website, PopCap Games have announced that they have been taken under the wing of EA. Alongside the statement, PopCap detailed what this means for them as a company:
1. EA is being rebranded to Poptronic Arts 2. Sim Zuma: The SwampLife Edition 3. Peggle: Dead Space – Bjorn’s Breakfast 4. Bejeweled Battlefield Blitz 5. Plants vs. ZombEAz: NFL Lockout Edition http://www.trueachievements.com/customimages/001619.jpg
They kid, they kid! Don't worry! Before you hit 'post' on that comment, this isn't the case at all. After a moment of levity, PopCap continued to say:
Ok, not really.
It means PopCap will join forces with one of the world’s largest game publishers, giving us access to many more resources and a greatly expanded global audience. It doesn’t mean that PopCap is going away or changing what we do or how we do it. On the contrary, PopCap’s creative culture is the main reason EA was interested in us. We’re not changing our focus from creating awesome casual games everyone can enjoy. We can take from this that PopCap have been acquired by EA, yet may be left to work in the manner that they are accustomed to. The difference will come where they push out the final products to the customer, and the resources made available to the studios to develop their games.
So what should you really expect from us in the future as part of EA? More! More games, more platforms, more players, and more fun.
PopCap has been around for more than ten years now, and we look forward to bringing you great games for at least another decade to come! The purchase is said to have set EA back around $650-750 million, so it's not a decision they'd have taken lightly.
The proof will be, as they say, in the pudding. We'll have to keep an eye on the movements of PopCap and their corresponding output in the future to see what this truly means for the company.
What are your thoughts on the meeting of these two outfits?

I'm surprised Microsoft didn't scoop them up. I guess this means we can expect more games from PopCap!

Yesterdays news lol. Anyways they did it because EA owns Pogo and Pogo sucks. So far the only pogo game on XBLA is BoomBoomRocket (which I love) unless they have another game I don't know of. This is just EA admitting their version of Popcap sucks and they want the real Popcap =P

I would be interested in knowing when the server structures at Microsoft leased by Popcap will go to the hands of EA. Which will then probably shut down some of them!
