Invert your horizontal plane, if you please
Some time ago, Chuck Bittner posted a petition appealing to game developers to include an option to allow gamers remap their button configurations. This may not seem like a huge issue generally, but Chuck Bittner is a disabled gamer who has difficulty reaching all the buttons on some game controllers, so remapping is key to his ability to enjoy many titles. Besides, who amongst hasn't played a game and found frustration because the default controls just didn't seem to make sense? I don't know about the rest of you, but the lack of y-axis inversion in Silent Hill Homecoming made the game almost unplayable for me at times.
The folks at Valve have apparently taken Chuck's petition, which has presently collected over 74,000 signatures, to heart, and, as per an email to Mr. Bittner from Jeep Barnet of Valve, the developer will be introducing button remapping to Portal 2 along with the upcoming free DLC which will be released this Summer.
Both button remapping and horizontal inversion will be available once the new DLC arrives.

| Glad this is taken notice. Valve games usually seemed to have button mapping anyways but it's good they are adding it to Portal 2. |

Good to see the petition is getting positive feedback. Free dlc is always nice as well too. |

| Although I don't have any disabilities that necessitate custom configuring, I think it's great that Valve is listening to people and opening the way for even more people to enjoy their amazing games. Hopefully more developers will pick up this idea and make it standard practice. |

| Why don't they just embed the remapping at a lower level in the Xbox code or in the controller itself so you can remap every game? |
Enough chat, I should be doing something useful... like getting achievements! |

| I wish that other games would do this. I think my all time favorite button layout was on halo 3, bumper jumper. But, no other games got even close to it. If I could make my own button layout for other games it would make them considerably better. Even Earth Defense Force has button mapping!! |

Every game should have button mapping from the get-go, great on Valve's part to add it in after ths guy started a petition though. Great story. Also, on the topic of inverting the axises...I actually hate them, I don't know how anyone could play that way, but to each their own! xD |

| Wow that is really cool of Valve. What a great game company! EA should take a page out of Valve's book :p. Hopefully this will become a standard in video games some day. |
