Hi, first post here since joining a while ago, hoping someone can help with a problem I am having.

I just started playing fallout 3, and within the first hour of playing I exited vault 101 and was met with a glitch where the screen is filled with jaggy kaleidoscopic nonsense, you occasionally get enough of a view to move around, such that I was able to make it to megaton. Within megaton there were no issues at all, but once I went back outside to work on some quests the same issue arose.

I can't find any helps online, noone seems to address the issue, only acknowledge it. It's pretty annoying that such a highly prized game still has such a crippling issue, and hoping someone has some help for me!

Cheers.

Unfortunately, Fallout 3 advice is usually save often (but not too often because that will also create problems. I think the common wisdom is less than 10 save slots) and start from an uncorrupted save. I'm really sorry I can't be more helpful that that.

It is astonishing how many horrible bugs still exist in that game. And New Vegas. I'm playing New Vegas again now and I try to have at least 3 save slots and save at least once an hour. I've had my autosave corrupt a couple times.

I guess I am ok with having to save a bit more fequently, might have to set a timer or something, hopefully there is a chance that if I start again it won't happen the same way?
Kinda ruins the whole immersive experience when you have to start again, because I don't think I'll be bothered to be as deliberate about what I say and look at etc etc...

Pretty frustrating!

I think I had it happen briefly and when I went back to an earlier save I was able to get past that same point without a problem. So I think chances are good that you should be able to play again without that particular glitch popping up at the same time.

I had this problem with X-Men: The Official Game. It kept happening during a boss battle, but I finally beat the boss, and I have never seen it since. So, it isn't just Fallout 3 that this happens in.

I had this problem the other day... I kept walking despite the vision issues, ran into some super mutants and got my ass handed to me (how can I kill what I cannot see? haha)... But I reloaded the exact same autosave that I had just been using, went the exact same route, and had no bug...
