Run, Murphy, run!
On one hand, Murphy Pendleton, the protagonist in Konami's upcoming Silent Hill: Downpour must think he's a pretty lucky guy. After all, he manages to get up and walk away from the crash involving the prison bus he was traveling in, which is a pretty convenient (though likely terrifying) road to freedom.
Unfortunately for Murphy, the path he takes from the scene of the accident leads through Silent Hill, a small town where mysterious, often mind-bending things occur. During Comic-Con, Konami released a number of screens to show off the game. Then, they followed that up with a pair of gameplay trailers.

Murphy Pendleton's trip through Silent Hill begins when Silent Hill: Downpour is released on October 25th. |

The 1st trailer is amazing, whatever is chasing him really inspires a sense of dread. I love the mechanics, the camera doesn't seem too wonky either. My only complaint was the text at the bottom was hard to read at times, but I imagine that'd be less of a problem on a TV. Also, it seemed to occur near the beginning of the game, because he was questioning what was going on.
The 2nd trailer...I can't watch for some reason. It's there, and plays more as time goes by, but it's just like a Gametrailers title screen. :( |

| I'm still debating over whether or not to pick up this game. I've played the other Silent Hills(personal favorite being 4), but this one seems too different. Any thoughts? |

from what little i could see of the video's (far too dark, everything else is fine on my tv, no idea why they are so dark) first looks essentially like what in any other game would have been a QTE, in this you have to do it yourself, +1 for SH:D. (also looks remeniscent of a silent hill game) second video, hmm, well, its black, then there is a leafy patch on the floor, then its almost black again, and those enemies are really annoying sounding, and either the fighting mechanic is a bit shit, or the guy playing it was (think alan wake with gamma & brightness @ 0)
hopefully they have included a light source, i'm tired of games making you guess whats going on, ever since doom 3 when they thought, i know its dark, lets program it to be just black..... if not, i'll be cranking my brightness like i used to in the old days
but as i said in the pictures thread, im gonna wait to see what the fans say (fans of 1 & 2 that is, the others aren't really that 'silent hill-y') |

Any thoughts?I'll agree this one definitely seems different from the others, but it's nice to see them holding true to trying to keep that horror alive. Something that I feel Resident Evil failed to do, as those games went from trying to be at least somewhat creepy to becoming just another action shooter that had absolutely no scare factor at all.
I don't know if I'll be picking this up at release either, but it does look like it has the potential to be very creepy. Personally games don't scare me as much as they used to, but I can appreciate a sketchy atmosphere as much as the next person. |

| I like the first trailer wth the fixed camera angles and puzzles reminded me of olf school re and sh with more up to date elements. The second trailer was meh with clunky combat. Still looking forward to the game though |

silent hill has slowly lost my good graces. the games are fine, i just think that either the franchise has become stale. these trailers look fresh but im starting to silently scream ALAN WAKE LOOK ALIKE!
(ps who had to stop watching the 2nd trailer because of the noob player got his ass handed to him by Alma's sisters?) |

| Huge turnoff, I can see these "chase" scenes in the first trailer becoming: rundown the long hallway, and threw shit into it's way until you get away. Camera angles ocassionally looked bad, but could be worse, and half the time I couldn't tell what was going on, idk if it was the lighting or the textures, but bad. Second trailer even worse, idk if the guy playing sucks or the gameplay is just that bad. Probably both. Just because its a survival horror doesn't mean the gameplay has to suck, thanks Dead Space for proving that! |
