Every great game deserves a terrible film adaptation
Back in May, it was reported that Ubisoft had purchased a movie studio and wanted to make adaptations of some of their popular franchises. In fact, their "Ubisoft Movie Studio" will not be producing the movies in-house, like Marvel recently started doing with their comic book adaptations, but rather act as a middle man between other studios and Ubisoft itself to work out production deals.
Having said that, Ubisoft does still plan on having some creative influence over any future adaptations. Ubisoft's Jean-Julien Baronnet detailed the three requirements studios need to meet:
The first is creative control, so we can be involved in the scriptwriting and production. The second is a royalty structure that ensures the financial security of our investments. And the third is a level of comfort that the production is of the highest quality. At Gamescom, Ubisoft's CEO Yves Guillemot said the first priorities are to adapt Assassin's Creed, Splinter Cell, and Ghost Recon.
Adept Splinter Cell fans may recall the teaser trailer of a Splinter Cell movie that was included in in the bonus features of Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory that has probably been scrapped since then. However, it's clear now that Ubisoft is back to trying to get that project, as well as the other two, off the ground.
The talks are all in very early stages but expect to see these movies sometime in the next few years. Ubisoft had mentioned a possible 2013 release for the adaptations. |

| I am always nervous about any game to movie adaptations. They either do very poorly, ala Silent Hill. Or there is the rare game to movie that will exceed expectations, but the majority are flops. |

I honestly laughed at the subtitle. Ingenius.
Anyway, I'm all for an Assassin's movie! Regardless of how good or terrible it may be. ;) |

| Idk, have you seen their Assassin's creed short films? They're pretty frackin awesome! Ubisoft is also one of the few companies that likes to have details concurrent and not just shoot the shit. I have faith that they can pull this off. Plus remember, TC properties were books before they were games. Only one TC movie has sucked, and that's because Ben Affleck fails. Which even marvel noticed after the dread that was Dare Devil. |

| Risky. They should self-produce rather than see their Clancy brand become tarnished. |

| they should bring 50 mins animation shorts with stellar voice acting. the windows phone version of Assassin's Creed has a pretty good (albeit forced!) animated startup intro! |

| I think this is great news. I love seeing game movies. Probably because I don't treat everything like I'm a critic because that's no fun IMO. I just sit back and enjoy the ride. Typically its very enjoyable when you're not overly judgmental. Silent Hill, Prince Of Persia, even Doom were all fun to watch. I won't go as far as including Uwe Boll movies. As forgiving as I try to be, that man is a horrid director. |
I aim to misbehave! |
