One sitting doesn't mean longest to complete, nor do I mean completing a game in one sitting (although you're welcome to include that information). Just the longest you've played when sitting down to play a game.

Here's how this works:

List the game you've played the longest in one sitting and how long you played. Breaks are ok to include in your one sitting (e.g., stopping to eat, taking a shower, restroom breaks, running to the local convenient store to grab something to drink, etc.) so long as you were not away from the game longer than 10 minutes or so. You can include why you played that wrong if you like.

I'll start:

Game: FF7

Play time: 27hrs

I took vacation when this game was released. My only breaks were a shower, answering the door to pay the pizza delivery guy and long enough to kick my girlfriend out of my apartment for annoying me while I was playing FF7 hehe. I actually didn't mean to play that long, I was just so engrossed in the game I couldn't stop.

Dirt 2 and Burnout paradise both got roughly a 23 hour session each, only took a break to get another box of lager smile

thinking about it i probably played burnout for 51 hours but i fell asleep for about an hour at the 23 hours mark so it doesnt count

nice thread idea btw

I can't remember exactly, but I'm pretty sure it was the first time I played Halo 2 on Xbox Live. I played for 20 hours straight, and the only reason I stopped at 20 hours is because I fell asleep playing in front of the TV, woke up a couple hours later and played it for 16 more hours.

I used to play constant strands of 12-15 hour sessions on Diablo 2 over the weekends when I was in high school.

Nowadays it's 2-4 hour sessions on the box, don't have free time like I used to

This is many years ago, so I can't really be sure. But I think I played The Sims from about 9 am on a saturday to about 4 pm on sunday. That would be 31 hours.

But more recently I easily do 24 hour sessions when I play RPGs, and I probably did it both with Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon the summer of 2008.

(I work nights, so I really don't have any regular sleep pattern anyway)

my longest was 36 hours on FF10. By the time i beat it i think i had 110.

Btw, just read a story on gamepolitics.com some indian kid did a 40 hour GTA 4(though after his mandatory breaks its really only 33 and a half).

How can y'all play for that long?

My personal best was around 4 hours and 30 minutes on GTA 4 when it first came out. After that, I felt like crap though. Can't believe how I could ever make it past 10 hours. And I'm very paranoid about getting the RROD again.

There are also some achievements that makes you play for several hours. Level 100 in Gauntlet takes about 5,5 hours simply because there's no save feature.
And there are several others in this category.

I also usually played through The Curse of Monkey Island in one sitting simply because it played out like like animated movie. So it was like watching a 4,5 hour movie.

It's rare that I play games for longer than a couple hours without a break. But this was the first major RPG on the PSX (Wild Arms actually took gamers by surprise when it was just a time passer until FF7 was released - it turned out to be an outstanding game) and on top of that, it was Final Fantasy. After Squaresoft jerked every Final Fantasy fan around when it came to FF games between FF1 through FF7, we didn't know if we'd see FF7 or not. I thought I was going to have to import this one just like I did FF2, FF3 and FF5 because I figured Squaresoft wouldn't release it in NA.

Then we started seeing commercials. Those commercials with the cgi cutscenes, graphics like no one had seen before was every FF fans dream. And once I started I couldn't stop. The game lived up to the hype.

I can honestly say I've never wanted to play a game half as much as I wanted FF7 and there was no stopping me when it finally arrived. I was marking days off the calendar and I vacation from work for FF7. I was never like that on any game prior to FF7 and I haven't been since.

I played "The Sims' back on the original Xbox with my friend from 9 am to 7 pm (10 hours). We actually quit because we had to get food. And since it was co-op (playing 2 people) even when one of us had to go to the bathroom the other kept playing. Why they didn't make that game backwards compatible is something I'll never know. It's the Sims! (the original, I know the second one is).

I also consistently used to play spurts of Halo 2 "all night" (from about 5 pm to 3 am or so). As well as the original Rainbow Six 3. Back in the day...

Baldars Gate, I played around 36hrs. I just got it put it in and could manage to pull myself away, I only stopped because my characters died and I hadn't saved for a long time so I got super pissed and turned it off.
I'm not crazy, I'm insane; there is a difference.

36 hours on Jurassic Park for SNES. I was at the end of the game, but couldn't figure out what to do. I've beaten it since, thanks to emulators.

My best's:
Fallout - 12 hours
Oblivion - 11 hours
Modern Warfare 2 - 10 hours
Rome: Total War/Civilization 4 - 8 or 9 hours switching between the two.

Absolutely loved Fallout and Oblivion.
