It's all in preparation for MW3, really [UPDATE]
Update: It's been made clear by Robert Bowling on his Twitter that you will only be able to earn one token per CoD game, not one token per prestige in each game. So, you can earn a max of four tokens.

Original Story:
Activision revealed today that they will be kicking off a Double XP weekend for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty: Black Ops on Thursday, October 27th.
Now, of course, there are likely those of you who think this is little more than a ploy to keep players away from DICE's newly released Battlefield 3, but there actually is good cause to participate if you'll be picking up Modern Warfare 3 next month. See, for anyone who has already prestiged in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Modern Warfare 2, Call of Duty: World at War, or Black Ops, you'll receive a prestige token for Modern Warfare 3. These prestige token allow you to buy perks, such as two hours of double XP time in MW3 or the ability to "choose one piece of gear from your custom class to keep unlocked from rank 1 of future prestiges".

| Do you have to prestige during double XP or does it count if you've already prestiged because I'm 10th on Cod 4 and don't want to prestige again on Black Ops, that only leave MW2 and I don't know if I can enjoy it enough to prestige. |

This is great. I ranked up to Prestige 9, rank 30 something in CoD4 then gave my 'tag to my eldest. I'm at 45 now and it's the only one I haven't prestiged in!

The video seems to say double XP is active "across the franchise."
Unless you're parsing that as it being on for the first time in the franchise, yet only for MW2 and Black Ops. That's not how I interpret his statement.
I hope/dread that it counts for WaW since I've got about a million sessions lined up for it this weekend in anticipation. |

| Just started back on MW2 and Black Ops .... and forgot how bad i was lol but double xp sounds good will be playing those a few hrs a day next weekend |
