Some Beta News Too!
With a release date announced and a new trailer & screenshots released, it's only fitting that Capcom announces the pre-order bonuses that will be available for their upcoming 4-player co-op title Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City.
Everyone who pre-orders the game will receive an alternate costume for each of the six playable characters. Three different retailers will also be offering two bonus weapons exclusive to their pre-order.
Gamestop pre-orders will receive an Anti-Material Rifle and a Combat Shotgun. Best Buy pre-orders will receive a Perforator and a Combat SMG Amazon pre-orders will receive a Machine Pistol and a Cowboy shotgun.
Capcom is also going to be offering a Special Edition of the game which will include multiple codes and collectables.
The Special edition will contain the game, two embroidered patches (Spec Ops Field Unit & Umbrella Security) a Steelbook containing exclusive art work, the six alternate costume skins and all eight bonus weapons. Considering I only mentioned six when talking about the retailer pre-orders, we can only assume that there are two exclusive to the special edition; no details on what those other two weapons are though. You can get all of that for $69.99!
According to Joystiq, last week the producer of Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, Mike Jones, stated that there will be a beta available to the public "early next year." No other details have been provided on a time table or what that beta will include. As soon as we have more information we will be sure to pass it on to you guys!
Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City will be released on March 20th, 2012.

Stopped following this game's development. Last time I checked in, the game seemed to be headed nowhere good. Any changes on that front?

While it seems to be following RE5 in diverging even further from the series (gameplay wise), this game looks to be a lot of fun nonetheless. Hopefully the beta is early enough that I can try it out and see if it's worth grabbing the special edition. :D

This game looks like a lot of fun, and I love the idea of getting all the different pre-order bonuses from the Special Edition - time to reserve my copy!

I've been pretty excited about the premise of a 4 player RE, and love that they are going to do a public beta, and I agree with Teh Paralyzer, I don't normally fall for the special edition garbage, but this time around I think I just may, especially since it only raises the price by $10

The other two weapons are called Matilda and a Classic Launcher. Matilda looks to be gold-colored gun with a shoulder stock while the CL looks to be a grenade launcher like the first three games have.
