There is a short list of video game franchises that can stop the world with an announcement; The Elder Scrolls, Zelda, and Call of Duty are a few of them. Ever since GTA III reinvented the concept of what a sandbox game could be, gamers everywhere have eagerly played each new installment over the years. This week's announcement trailer of Grand Theft Auto V was clearly a popular topic here on TA and among gamers everywhere.
With that said, what new features are you hopeful to find when GTA V rolls out to stores? I asked some residents of the TA chatroom to help finish the list of possible features I was building. Thanks to them and thanks for all your replies.
Last week's TA Poll Last week we asked the community what the most important aspect of a game is. Nearly 59% of you said single player is the most valuable aspect. In second place were those of you who want it all, both offline and online game modes, with 25.8%. In third was the social butterflies of TA who prefer their games to have a co-op feature with 11.2%. In dead last, to my surprise, was competitive multiplayer with a miniscule 4% of you saying that's the most important part of a game. Maybe these studios out there should learn that gamers do still care about a compelling story, and we don't always need a rushed multiplayer mode taking the time and resources from what is already a great game. (*cough Dead Space 2 cough*)We'll be doing a TA Poll every Sunday from now on so keep looking for it on the Homepage. Happy Gaming!
Poll: What new feature are you hoping Rockstar includes in Grand Theft Auto V?
10.3% - Ability to fly planes
26.5% - Co-op story
4.0% - Multiple playable characters
6.4% - Female playable character
3.3% - Heist side-missions
13.0% - Branching storyline, alternate endings
19.1% - Light RPG elements, San Andreas style
14.6% - Lose the serious tone
2.8% - Other - Discuss in the comments
We had 1,553 responses to the poll.

I was torn between co-op story and losing the serious tone. I went with the latter.
But if GTA did now take a more 'silly' approach would people say it is copying Saints? |

| Definitely co-op, flying planes was fun in all, but its more fun to play with other people. |

| Branching storyline, and alternate endings would be great. I'd like a reason to play through a few times. |

Other - I want a more detailed, larger sandbox to play in. Things like more comedians, better strip clubs, more playable games at the arcade and bowling alley, etc. |

Flying planes and branching storylines would be awesome. Also, I hope they keep the serious tone; not lose it |

I really want a branching storyline, hopefully where your actions early on will affect what later missions you are given. And this would mean that each playthrough would be slightly different.
I'd love the plane ability, but it's virtually been confirmed in the trailer, and I'm going by things that we really don't know. I wasn't such a big fan of the co-op in GTA IV, mainly because there was no easy way to link up with friends, and it was a pain to get Wanted as a result. Protagonist-wise, I think it'll be the guy we see at 0:40 in the trailer, since he appears a couple of other times, but I think save the multiple protagonists for DLC.
(I think I'm looking forward to this game a bit too much) |
Feel free to PM me about the GTA IV walkthrough, or any problems you're having with the game. |

| I chose the RPG elements of San Andreas because I really enjoyed building my muscle and watching my virtual diet. |

I voted for 'losing the serious tone', as I felt San Andreas was a lot more entertaining from start to finish. Although having planes, and countryside would be 2 other things that I want.
And also, for more minigames- as GTA IV wasn't really a sandbox game.. (more of an adventure with free roaming elements) |
My forum posts are probably not worth paying attention to. |

| Although I voted to lose the serious tone. I think nearly every option is a good one. But a lighter hearted approach would make it less of a trudge through the story. |

| I voted multiple playable characters. Why? It's the only choice that I liked. :) |

I chose the ability to fly panes, though a co-op campaign is a very close second choice. Really hoping they include the ability to fly the Zeppelins we saw in the trailer. |

| Co-op hands down. I play a great deal of free roam with friends on Gay Tony, and that's fun and all but ultimately there's nothing to do. Even just pub games and bowling and all that stuff would be a nice addition to multiplayer, like it was in RDR. |
