More multiplayer character options
If you thought that Assassin's Creed: Revelations wouldn't have any DLC this side of Christmas, you were wrong. The "Ancestors Character Pack" DLC, consisting of four new character choices, has been revealed by Ubisoft.
The additional content will add the "swashbuckling Privateer, the devious siren Corsair, the battle-tested Brigand and the bloodthirsty Gladiator". Each of the four new characters will offer 'unique taunts, weapons and stylised assassination moves' to help add some variety into your style of play.
Edit: Since publication of this article, Ubisoft has released a handful of screenshots showing the new characters in action:

The Gladiator http://www.trueachievements.com/customimages/005192.jpg
The Privateer http://www.trueachievements.com/customimages/005193.jpg
The DLC is said to land with a price point of 320MSP on December 13th. |

| Oh this is getting fucking ridiculous...... At least wait until the game has been out a month before announcing this please. Have some courtesy to those who think they're purchasing a game with completed content. I loved Deus Ex and it's DLC.... but it doesn't stop the fact that having DLC so close to the release of a game is a kick in the nuts to gamers. |

| Hahahaha. So typical of today's companies to completely take the piss. Did you rip this out of the game like you did to ACII? |

| I remain completely imune to their money grabbing techniques, as I absolutely don't care which character I play as online. Paying real money for some animated characters or weapon skins seems ridiculous to me. |

| I totally agree with Bistric. While I don't mind DLC soon after a game has come out (keep in mind the developers have had the game finished for around 2 months at this point and have been working on this afterwards), I think that these characters basically amount to weapon skins or costumes. There will be better DLC out for this game, so I'm going to save my money for that. |

| What a rip off, if we got extra gameplay or even achievements it might tempt me, but for new characters only they are having a laugh, just another way of trying to get people to spend, it wont work on me Ubisoft, you will have to do much better than this for your money |

It's one thing when it's Disc Locked but depending on the game, they may stop creating content for the disc itself three months before release. After that it's all bug fixes. Anything more than that has to be DLC to be sure they don't create MORE bugs. |

I imagine most DLC is developed alongside the main game (they are the same programmers after all using the same game engine etc) and then held back to fleece gamers as much as possible. And im sure it wouldnt be too difficult to add costumes and skins to the main game, how long does it take to program a different coloured pair of pants anyway lol |

I DO think it ridiculous that there releasing DLC RIGHT after the game itself has come out. It always makes me feel like i've purchased a non complete game once again. Which seems to be a tedious thing these days, and people can say whatever they want but it IS a cash grab when it's a couple of freaking multiplayer DLC characters. There gonna try and charge me for a 'most likely' 150kb download (which will be on this disc i assure you) so i can look a bit different in multiplayer? Fuck off ...
You say you loved the Deus Ex DLC, i did too. 1200msp is how much it cost, which pisses me not BECAUSE it's 1200 points. Is the fact they said they cut nearly half the game before it was released. (It was a TA article ages ago) so i KNOW that i should have gotten those missions on the disk. So as with the multiplayer characters of AC:R, the take content out and sell it separately.
I can also guarantee people will buy this, THUS making the statement once again to the developers that it OK to do this thing all the time ...
I'm not even going to mention MW3 ... |
I will protect you, no matter the cost! |

Better off picking a common character in MP anyway, DLC = Rarer characters so will be easier to spot .

I agree with the general consensus here.
Just remarkable that people buy this stuff while it's so apparent you're being screwed over. |

And im sure it wouldnt be too difficult to add costumes and skins to the main game, how long does it take to program a different coloured pair of pants anyway lolEven if they did work on it BEFORE release, do you really think that they manage to finish it all? I only point this out because I remember people complaining about Reach's first map pack and how there were pictures of the maps from the end of July when the game came out in September.
The problem with this was that A) The pictures came out AFTER the game went gold (went to press) and B) weren't even close to the same finished product that we received as DLC.
Game development isn't just a "Start here, finish here, (optional hold back content), start DLC, finish DLC." There are weeks or months where they have to decide what they are going to cut out of the game because they won't be able to finish it. Then they either QA it or they have a department to do it. And during this time, work doesn't just stop, they continue to develop more content, either for this game or another.
Now don't get me wrong, that doesn't mean companies DON'T hold content back. Take Epic and Gears of War 3. All the content is on the disc already so you know it was already done. Maybe they need to tweak things or something but the stuff they have to put on your console can't be larger than a title update.
That said, it brings up a different discussion completely. You can argue about what they should do and what you deserve. But there are no "Gamer's Rights," just what you feel entitled to by some kind of code of honor. But what about what the developers deserve? They deserve to get paid and some of them deserve to be paid well (NOTE: I don't mean publishers, I mean developers). Who is more deserving, the person who consumes or the person who creates?
When each group is as deserving as the other (and I don't think that's true anyway), it comes down to simple economics. The question you need to ask yourself is, if Bethesda locked away some additional content on the Skyrim disc (which probably isn't possible but hypothetically), and you had to pay to unlock it, would you bitch about that? Skyrim is probably the best value you are going to get out of a game all year. You could play it as long as any game with multiplayer but it's all hand crafted, voice acted gameplay not to mention that Bethesda has a good track record with encouraging modding (which is generally free). Could you honestly say that you were robbed because they left something on the disc that you couldn't tough?
EDIT: I would just like to point out, I'm not saying you should feel compelled to pay for it. I'm just saying that maybe it's the gamers who are being greedy, not the developers. |

| I don't mind them releasing DLC already, but I see no point since most of the multiplayer matches don't allow you to chose your characters. If it's a team match your team uses the same character. |

Not at all, most gamers are not greedy! For instance i bought Street Fighter IV i didnt mind paying a little extra for costumes extra i thought it added more to the game. Not long after they released Super Street Fighter IV i also bought this thinking it was the complete version of the game, then not long after that Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition is released with even more characters etc. THis is why im not buying Assassins Creed Revelations just yet i will wait until GOTY Edition is released! I just picked up Assasins Creed 2 GOTY Edition for £7 and sold my uncomplete AC2 for 20 even though i bought it for£35 nearly 2 years ago!Ive come to a point where i only wait for GOTY versions of games why should i hav to buy the basic version 6 months later a version with dlc then 1 year later with all dlc ,costumes, weapons everything etc,its just cheaper to do that by far i have enough games to complete as it is!!Im sure this is an opinion of many gamers! |
