New graphic and physic engines, gameplay alterations, returning sidekick, more
If yesterday's sale on Sonic items have got you itching for more from the blue hedgehog, today's news will certainly entice you. First details are coming in the form of a teaser courtesy of Sega and Gamespot for Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II

It didn't take a rocket scientist to decipher that Sonic's favorite sidekick Tails will be returning in the newest episode, as well as his rival, Metal Sonic.
The trailer also promised new surprises as well. Some of these were immediately divulged in a Gamespot interview with Ken Balough, Digital Brand Manager at Sega. Sonic fans voiced their praise and concerns on forums and websites pertaining to Episode I. Something fans expressed some distaste for was the 'feel' of Sonic, especially how he came out of his curl far too quickly after spin dashing. According to Balough, this has been addressed in the next part of the series.
Although you wouldn't call this a true sequel, Sega is tackling aspects of the second part of Sonic 4 like it is. There will be an all-new graphics engine, as well as a physics one. The feel and look of Sonic 4 should be a bit different in this next episode.
The release date is still quite vague, with the game pegged for a 2012 debut. These new details should settle any fear that the game wasn't going to come at all, and the new tweaks and changes should excite any platformer fan.
Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II is confirmed for release on both Xbox LIVE Arcade and Windows Phone platforms, both coming in 2012.

I want to be excited by this, but after being blatantly lied to by the marketing in regards to Episode I (i.e., "BUILT FROM THE GROUND UP" while actually being a modification of the Sonic Rush titles), I'm not sure I want to let myself get hyped up just yet.
I like Ken, he's an awesome guy. I just want to see some proof before I can trust him this time. Bring on the footage SEGA. |
