A first for an XBLA title as Microsoft cooperate as best they can
As you may be aware the approval process for title updates, patches and DLC isn't what one may describe as 'rapid' on Xbox LIVE. It has been revealed however that the upcoming Minecraft will be set to receive rapid deployment of updates to help keep the title moving along at the pace the title requires.
4J Studio's Chief Technology Officer Paddy Burns detailed how cooperative Microsoft had been on the issue:
Microsoft knows that to do a similar thing that's on PC where they constantly update it, that's a very difficult thing to do on Xbox because you have to go through the full tests. But they are quite keen to move towards that - they do see it as the future, so I think we might be the first to do constant updates.It's suspected that updates will not be an exception to Microsoft's stringent testing and certification procedures, but that efforts could be made to bring updates to the title at least every other month. As it stands the title is set to launch on a Beta 1.6.6 codebase.

That aside, I'm SUPER excited about Minecraft XBLA and this news is fantastic - should help the game catch up to 1.1 quickly.

1.6.6 means no creative mode, no pistons, old world generation, old Nether, no swamps, no mushroom biomes, no Enderman, no strongholds, no The End, no hunger system, no enchanting, and the list goes on and on.
Unless it is 800 points or less I'm not going to buy it. |

I'll be interested in having a little tinker with this when it comes out.
Never /really/ played it on the PC. Had a wander around a friend's world, not enough to try out the actual 'gameplay' elements of it.
As much as I loved lego as a small child, I am older now, and I prefer games with rules, objectives, and actual goals. I hope the xbox release has enough direction to interest me. I'm sure that's a concept entirely lost on Minecraft's martyrly fanbase, however. |

| The cynic in me reads this as 'Minecraft will receive more frequent updates just after it launches until Microsoft decides it's a pain in the ass and returns to normal update process'. Honestly why would Microsoft change it for an XBLA game like Minecraft when this policy hasn't changed for massive billion dollar titles like COD etc? |
