Please, no spoilers about ME3 in this thread. While I'm guessing most people that are going to play ME3 have already played ME and ME2, please label all ME and ME2 spoilers. Thanks.
Okay, some may remember my ME2 post about first runs on Insanity here: ME2 - anyone dive right into insanity?
So, who's gunna dive right in to Insanity?
I'll make another one of these threads when we get an ME3 board, because I am hoping it will turn into kind of a Q & A thread like my last one did. Toward the end of the ME2 Insanity thread, a lot of people chimed in to help people having issues with Insanity on their first run. Off the top of my head, I remember Globalizer, The Nevarrine (dunno if I spelled that right), Kung Fu Riki and others all stopping by to offer advice to people having trouble. I didn't expect that thread to go in that direction, but I'm glad it did because I think a few gamers got help from reading it. I'd like the ME3 thread to evolve that direction once we get into the meat of ME3 on Insanity. I may dig out my game recording equipment and make some videos for the more difficult spots like I did last time.
Anyway, I just wanted to give a heads up to those people that may be interested in the first run ME3 Insanity thread. |

| Not me. I have no problem admitting that I had a brutal time on Insanity in ME2. I couldn't get past Horizon, the praetorian kept wiping me out. I plan on trying again, but probably won't be able to do it. That stings because I beat ME1 on Insanity and found it pretty easy. I would rather push through ME3 and just enjoy it, then later try to challenge myself. |

On Horizon Praetorian (and most YMIR mechs in the game) all you had to do was circle some form of cover and shoot around or over top the cover for the easy win.
Did you play ME2 on Insanity on your first run? If so, the reason ME1 Insanity was easy was because you had to play on a lesser difficulty first and you got bonuses for playing through ME1 on that other difficulty level. It made the Insanity a joke, but, aside from the Collector Ship, I thought ME2 Insanity was an even bigger joke on the first play through. They are two different styles though, so maybe ME1 just catered more to your style of gaming than ME2 did. |

I am definitely going Insanity first playthrough. My character from ME1 got max level and majority of the game complete, transferred to ME2, max level again and everyone was saved. ME on Insanity annoyed me, but I just rushed through the main quest. ME2 was easier, mainly due to the different cooldown and power systems. ME3 feels amazing from the demo, though that demo build is apparently old, as that was one they were showing at E3. One reporter almost cried when he was playing it. *SPOILER* and the little kid gets in the transport and dies. *END SPOILER* |

| I went through both on Normal and went up each time beating them on Veteran and Hardcore. Then played on Insanity and like I said with 1, the move up wasn't bad. However, with 2 it was like going from climbing the rock wall at Bass Pro to trying Mt. Everest. It was physically and mentally exhausting to me. Maybe I am just not patient enough or something, but it just was so hard because I would die constantly. Mostly because my teammates dies within 30 seconds of the fight starting. |

| Will it let you do Insanity first playthrough? I didn't think ME2 let you do that, and I know ME1 didn't... |

I personally didn't as I like to enjoy my first playthrough quite leisurely. Then I pull out the Insanity run next and do all the DLC on insanity. Did this in Dragon Age Origins, ME1 and ME2. |

Mostly because my teammates dies within 30 seconds of the fight starting. That's probably why you found ME1 easier. I'm not 100% sure of this, but I think ME2 only added a 25% exp bonus and a bonus power (which could be changed at the research terminal). Selecting the wrong bonus power could actually make the game more difficult. For instance, as a Soldier, if you selected Barrier as your bonus power then you just boned yourself because the power shares a cooldown period with Adrenaline Rush (a Soldier's bread and butter). Of course you could change it at the Normandy's research terminal. How one allots stat points can make the beginning of ME2 Insanity VERY difficult as well.
But, yeah, I totally understand not wanting to play Insanity on the first run if someone is having a difficult time. No sense in beating yourself up, ya know? Games are meant to be fun, not a chore. Of course you could always give ME3 Insanity a go on your first run. It may be easier this time around! And hopefully the thread I'll create when ME3 is released will be at least as helpful as the last one and you can always come there and ask for advice (and add your own advice and tips when someone asks for help). Good luck with which ever you choose!

| I have every intention of trying it on Insanity eventually...just not right away. I am going to pick up 2 again soon and give it another go. I have a Vanguard that's at Horizon right now. It would be a shame to let all that progress go to waste. |

On my ME2 YouTube videos, it seemed like every other comment was about how to do something as Vanguard hehe. I think I played one on ME1, but I never bothered importing the save or anything. I know I had Soldier, Infiltrator and Adept on ME1 (only Soldier on ME2).
Be sure to pop into the thread even if you don't run Insanity first because even players running a lesser difficulty can help those playing Insanity out and vice versa. |

Can't believe I'm putting down ME3 at all to type this :)
I'll be doing Insanity after the first playthrough - rage isn't one of the emotions I want to experience while everything is fresh. After my second ME2 playthrough on Insanity with a Sentinel (I had the wrong build, but it worked), I haven't lowered the difficulty below Hardcore for my full Infiltrator and half-done Vanguard playthroughs. Playing as Vanguard is going to be even better with the improved movement in ME3.
Edit: Bumped it to Hardcore and have only completed Mars so far. Cerberus troops are looking to only be a threat when backed by an Atlas, or perhaps in great numbers. |

It's the only difficulty level that even remotely provides a challenge, and even that doesn't last very long since they ALWAYS allow your character to become god like in 90%+ of all the RPGs these days. In fact it irks me when i CAN'T choose the hardest difficulty my first time through.
Suck it up and play Insanity.. WORST case the first few hours are MILDLY challenging and you may have to use *gasp* some strategy.. But who doesn't want a challenge... Besides the lazy achievement whores that is :) |

Besides the lazy achievement whores that is :)Not that it matters, but I've been playing videogames since hi tech was two sticks and a square ball being hit back and forth. So far from a noob hehe. I play the most difficulty setting allowed on my first run in every game because that is part of what I enjoy. Even if there's no achievement for it (as an example, I rolled Nightmare in Dragon Age: Origins on my first run). I like the challenge, but not everyone gets the same enjoyment out of videogames as someone else. There's absolutely nothing wrong with people wanting to play the easiest setting of any game. People can play whatever difficulty level they're comfortable with and we've no right to tell anyone otherwise. Games are entertainment and when they become a chore to play, they lose that entertainment value. So let's not call people names or call them out for not playing a game the way WE find it fun.
I want this thread to end up helping people out in the end (for ANY difficulty level) and when people start poking fun at others it will cause them to not post questions if they have them and I'd like to keep away from that. Thanks! |

Better yet, I've made a new thread for help. ANY difficulty level can post questions here. This way we can keep the hlpe topics virtually spoiler free and under one topic. Good luck in ME3!
