I want a zombie game badly. Left 4 Dead seems like the safest bet, but I think Dead Island having an actual campaign and a bit more longevity to it, that maybe it would be a fun route to take. I'm not big on the RPG aspects of it (I want to kick zombie ass, not progressively get better at kicking zombie ass)... but it'd be a hoot with friends (and probably more fun solo as well than L4D) which is the reason I got the Xbox.
How buggy is the game though, really? I've heard some nasty horror stories. |

| It's playable. I haven't experienced too many bugs, but I haven't played the online part either. You kind of run like a retard (look at your shadow on the ground when running and you'll see what I mean). In my opinion, the game's biggest drawback is the repetition. The combat is extremely melee driven. So each encounter is basically a repeat of the last. There are guns, but they're pretty weak until you get to the latter stages of the game. Even then, it will still be predominantly melee. |

I'm not sure I mind the melee really, as long as the process of killing the zombies is gory and/or entertaining.
My biggest concern is definitely the bugs. As long as I can play it online without horrible lag, no saves corrupting, items randomly disappearing and the sort... I think I'll be able to find a way to enjoy the game. |

Dreakon1313 said:(I want to kick zombie ass, not progressively get better at kicking zombie ass)Then I'd say you want Left 4 Dead. I enjoyed Dead Island whilst I wasn't playing. Whenever I was playing it it made me angry, but then I'd miss it when I stopped. Weird, I know.
L4D has better replayability as well. I still pick it up and play every now and then.
Edit: On topic, though - I didn't actually find it buggy at all. Maybe I was just lucky. |
So much for pathos... |

| I don't know how it is now really. But I played it a month after release and never NEVER had a single glitch other than graphical ones (most of which were downright hilarious.) I highly recommend you try Dead Island! |

For anyone interested, I just got Dead Island today and it's honestly one of the coolest zombie games I've played. I like it's pacing a bit more than Left 4 Dead (I don't mind balls to the wall sometimes, but not through the entire game) and the melee is more satisfying then people here let on. I think this game will be a hoot and a half once I get a chance to play with my friend, who also bought it today.
No big issues yet but I've only played for like an hour or so. |

I haven't played Dead Island yet ( maybe an hour or so on the PC aside ) but the thing I'm most concerned about is that the time spent on the Resort is great, big outdoor environment. And I'm not 100% sure about this but it seems like the game ends up being more and more of a corridor game if you catch my drift.
Also another much heard complaint is that on some parts in the game there are infinite zombie spawn points.
I'm still going to play this sooner or later. |

Corridor games are good too.
Honestly, I think I'd get really bored if the whole game was just walking around a resort. The bits and pieces in the first hour that involved shining my flashlight stumbling through dark rooms/hallways was pretty intense and a welcome change of pace.
Gonna do some Dead Island tonight, assuming my friend can find some free time. |

It's not really buggy, honestly. Soemtimes a corrupt file glitch happens, your save file may get corrupted, but you can load the same character from the chapter you were on, I beleive. You'll lose your weapon mods though. It happened to me, but it's not a HUGE deal. If you want to just kill zombies, L4D is better for it. Dead Island has story/ RPG elements going for it, L4D is just shoot like hell and kill. |

| I have played both on-line and solo pretty extensively and I have never experienced and lag or buggyness... I like this game much more than L4D2... |

In the last 2 hours the game has frozen my xbox 3 times. Its a bit annoying.
Even with all the bugs its still a good game though. |

I played this game like crazy (130h playtime) and still play it. But i never exp. so many/much bugs and glitches. The game froze 2x,and 1 white screen appeared. And i remember a glitched Thug in a wall but that's all. |

this game is quite good. id say its better than the average game, but it didnt blow me away. at first, it gets boring super fast. you have extremely bad weapons for pretty long and you can only carry one until you get an upgrade, which takes a while. once youre somewhere in the 3rd chapter, which means youre almost done, you are able to craft kickass weapons and you wont really have to worry about ammo anymore once you get the ammo blueprint and can buy all parts at the moresby church. up until then, the other guys are right, its 90% melee. i couldnt help but chuckle a little when you compared this to L4D. Left 4 Dead has set a milestone for all co-op games and the gameplay is so good that it is prolly the most replayable game i have ever played. this game, on the other hand, is a really good idea. youre on a tropical island with zombies - whats not to love about that right?! but the RPG aspects of this game just sort of force it, at if youre not too much into RPGs like me. and the story is simply weak, imo. this game is good, but if i were you, i would get it now rather than on release. and if youre asking whether to get this or L4D, then im sooooooooo voting for L4D. |

| Back up your saves! Twice now it's deleted my main level 50 and level 42 characters. It freezes alot but those are the only two bugs I've run into. If you've backed up you should be fine! |

I remember when we where trying for the "don't startle a witch" cheevo, after we went back with the gascans a witch spawned right in the elevator we needed to take. And the game(play) is so slow compared to Dead Island, turning around takes ages in L4D. |

And the game(play) is so slow compared to Dead Island, turning around takes ages in L4D.Out of curiosity, you do realize that there's a button in L4D to automatically turn you around, right? It's like immediate. I've actually devastated zombie hordes by staying a narrow hallway with a shotgun and just shooting what's in front of me and then quick turning to get the rest. And I wouldn't call the witch being in the elevator, that's kind of sucky and it happens to me ALL the damn time but I think that's just due to bad luck with the spawning. Unless she spawned in when she shouldn't have then I'd piss and moan.
But I've never had any bugs with L4D or Dead Island. I've had MASSIVE amounts of bugs and glitches in the sequel though.

Did they just vanish off the HDD or did they turn into crap data? Hmm, I'd like to know this now as I'm getting up there in levels on multiple characters. |
