I am trying to get the "Use what now?" achievement.
The Use what now? achievement in Minesweeper (WP) worth 7 pointsCompleted a minefield without using any flags on a minefield that is 9x9 or larger.
Is there a easy way to gain this achievement apart from losing over and over and over. |

| I haven't played Minesweeper in a long time, but take your time, and use the smallest board possible. Trial and error may be the only way to do it. |

| I got this just by luck. It has to be on a minefield that is 9x9 or larger remember that. All I did was click around randomly until I got a few lucky clicks in and cleared most of the board. Then just choose the correct tiles and don't place any flags down. |

| Yeah, been trying to get it but just can't win a game without using the bonus tools given. And my shield is usually gone after the 3rd guess. |

Zavistic, because I'm not sure of your skill level with Minesweeper, it's kind of hard to give advice, but I'll do my best.
Your first click should always be somewhere near the center of the board. Generally, that's where you'll clear the most tiles out at first.
You shouldn't have to guess where bombs are unless you get a bad board or are near the end with clumps of bombs. Use process of elimination to clear out numbers. If you have a 1 next to a bomb, click every tile around it that ISN'T the bomb.
To help I've done a sample for you, click the links below to see what I've done step by step.

As you look at the pic, you see that the numbers represent how many bombs are touching that number. If you can locate a corner, typically they become easy to differentiate.

If you look in the top right corner, the bomb could be either of the two places, so we won't mess with that spot right now. We'll save the "guess" for when we need it, which is at the end.

Clicking the areas I knew to be safe revealed a huge chunk of the board and identified some more bombs for me. According to my tracker, I've got two bombs left (PC is set to 10 bombs on a 9x9 by default), which means it should be easy to find the remaining one on the left hand side.

Bingo! The number three I revealed on the left told me exactly where the last bomb was. I now know it's safe to click all of the others on the left hand side.

If you look on the right hand side now, you still don't know which of the two blocks has your bomb. Since you have the shield, just click one of them. If it isn't the bomb, you win. If it is the bomb, click the other one and you win. My personal preference is to select the outside block as the safe one, but there is no guarantee. In this instance I was correct, and won without using a shield.
