Been looking up some stuff about this game and at first, it looked like the game I was hoping Final Fantasy XIII would be (which happened to be a rather large disappointment, I barely got anywhere before I gave up on it). Heard a lot of good regarding the story, content and polish of the game overall.

However, I've heard quite a few bad things as well. Loooong load times, framerate stuttering and combat that gets a little stale after a while.

Considering all of the fans of the game around here, maybe it's a biased place to ask... but should I let those problems get in the way of me buying the game? I always buy my games new (even if I have to spend $10-20 more for it, I enjoy having a pristine collection of games rather than someones cheeto-infested hand-me-downs) unless I'm really desperate or the price different is significant enough... so finding this game may be a little pricier than the norm... but is it worth it?

Any opinions, positive or negative, are welcome. smile

I never noticed any framerate problems, the loading times are a bit long though. I liked the combat, but I've always the "management" play style that comes along with turn based combat.

Some of the areas are pretty bland, and some of the party characters can be easily disliked. Kinda classic stuff for an RPG. On the other hand, one of the characters names Jansen is AWESOME. I also really liked the writing in the "Dream" stories, Ooh, and the DLC is super cheap now, which is nice.

I am not a big JRPG fan, having only played final fantasy 12 and 13. I gave this game a chance b/c it was cheap and I heard good things about it and I became hooked to the game. I love the story and like Radiant said the dream stories are a really nice addition. I did find the combat to get a little boring after a while but every so often you are introduced to a new enemy that shakes things up and makes you think. I still have not beaten the game but I really do enjoy it.

Hey, thanks guys. Do you think the pro's of this game outweigh the con's?

It would be nice to add a little variety to my 360 collection as long as I can find this game new relatively cheap.

Really enjoyed this game and would say its the closest I've come to reliving that ff7 feeling. Depends on your play style, I really love the turn based strategy RPG which some people don't. If your a young gamer and only used to action games and the quick styles of ff12 onwards then it may seem strange.

It can take a little bit to get into and the graphics can be a little ropey in places, the main villains eyebrows are hilarious. But the pros definitely outweigh the cons. When the game ends you'll feel like you've lost some good friends.

I'm still not even sure what the cons are? I don't even remember the loading times being anything upsetting. The combat only got tiresome for me when it came to grinding out everyone's abilities.

I loved Lost Odyssey. Played through it twice in order to get the full 1k from the retail disc and put over 100 hours in it both times. I will admit that when I first started playing it I wasn't really enjoying the game, mainly because of the storyline in the beginning. I enjoyed the combat and the graphics, but the storyline didn't really drag me in and keep me interested (at first). But when I hit the end of Disc 1 I was hooked (the events at the end of Disc 1 were what got me hooked). I could not put the controller down, I would only stop playing to go to work or sleep.

I don't remember there being any framerate stuttering and the load times are pretty average for an RPG of this size. I loved the battle system, never found it to be stale or bland at all. The ring system in Lost Odyssey reminded me of the battle system from Legend of Dragoon.

And as others have said there are a few characters that are forgettable and a little annoying at times (for me it was Cooke and Mack), never used them unless I had too (or to get the achievements). And Jansen is an awesome character, he reminds of Bruce Campbell (both in looks and how he talks/acts).

In all honesty, if you are a fan of RPGs I would highly recommend this game. And I can't even think of anything I disliked about the game. Its an awesome game with a great storyline. It kinda has a few FFVII moments, where not all the pieces are there yet so certain story elements don't feel quite right or even make sense, but then you find the sidequest or reach an area that fills in the blanks and everything makes sense.

A lot of what I was going to say was already said, but I'll make a quick re-cap of my thoughts. This is the only game that I've played for the 360 that has brought me back to my old PS1 era of JRPGs. It's a great game with an amazing story that can make you happy and said over the span of a few minutes. If you try to cover all the areas the game has to offer, you'll be able to defeat the later bosses without too much struggle, giving me the same feeling I had for some of the incredibly difficult bosses that Squaresoft used to throw into their games.

I had no problems with the framerate, even when there was a whole lot going on on-screen. The only time there will be a ton of things going on are during the FMVs. The battles get stale when grinding for some of the more difficult areas, but the whole ring system during the battles keep you on your toes.

I very much recall the loading times being long. Not so much that they were long in general, but you'll encounter them fairly often, so a load time that's just a bit longer than other games that you sit through a lot can get on your nerves. I went back to the game again after you could install your games and I installed the discs. This made those load screens take a hell of a lot less time, so I'd recommend doing that.

Also, if you weren't aware, most of the Mistwalker team who developed Lost Odyssey used to work on the older Final Fantasy games (I'm talkin' PS2 and earlier... all of those games). That's why there's so much relating going on between the two.

I loved the game, felt the most like FF X (my favorite of that series) of any game I've played. Installing cuts down quite a bit on the load times. The dream sequences are real tear jerkers on occasion. Characters mostly good, especially Jansen. The only bad thing about the game for me really were the kids, but Mack way more than Cooke. This is even leaving aside the absurdity of having mortal children involved in dangerous fighting when you happen to have a group of immortals available!

I think the first two boss fights, particularly the second, put some people off the game. It gets much easier after that though, aside from a few tough ones on the 4th disc.
