Rising shmup stars must first learn the basics
Cave's upcoming shmup, Akai Katana, is set for some serious full screen annihilation in the coming days for Pal regions and North America. The most recently covered screens gave us gorgeous details on the intense action gamers can expect from the title. As you may already know and have seen, the game is going to require some major skill, concentration and ridiculous reflexes in order to be successful through the levels. So before you dive head first into the soon to be released title, let's take a look at some of the basics with this newly released orientation trailer from Rising Star Games.
The trailer showcases how to handle the basics of the game including the ship's hitbox, defensive & offensive attacks, and phantom attacks. Check it out:

Akai Katana Shin is set for release tomorrow, May 11th in PAL territories, and May 15th for North America. |

I'd rather play a shoot em up than another FPS rehash anyday. |

| I think it's funny how people are afraid to play these games. Cant handle loosing a life to learn how to play a game == I want the game to play for me. (quick scope anyone??) |

This is one genre I still truly suck at. I respect whoever can master them.
And before you say it, I haven't played FPS games religiously in years. I have played COD up until MW2, but only the campaign.
And no, I'm not afraid of difficulty or mastering a game. Maybe I need more time to ramp up my skills in the genre. These games can be punishing, especially the ones that have upgrades and allow you to save yourself into a corner if your upgrades and skills don't add up to meet the requirements. I would definitely love to play this game, though. If I can get my money's worth out of it. |

| Killipo, a great game to work those skills on is Radiant Silvergun. It's less punishing than the Cave bullet hell games and is great fun. Sine Mora too...both games reward you extra continues the longer you play them so you will eventually get through. |
