Pistons and shears will be introduced to the world
Minecraft has now been available on the Marketplace for less than a week, but it would appear that the title is set to receive a fairly substantial and important update any time soon. This sets a healthy tone for the unprecedented number of updates required by the title to keep it 'true to it's roots'.
4J Studios revealed that they would be looking to update Minecraft to the equivalent of PC version 1.7.3. This should bring in the following items according to a source:
Pistons. Fixed clay generation. Flint and Steel or redstone is now required to trigger TNT. Fences can be stacked. Added Shears. Redstone wire now will connect to a repeater. Shears can be used to pick up leaf blocks. Shears can be used to shear sheep without hurting them Sheep no longer drop wool from being punched, only from being killed when they are unsheared. New textures for Cobblestone and Brick blocks. Silverfish skin was added (for Beta 1.8).There's no word on the intended date that this update will land, but we will of course pass the info along as soon as we know more about it. |

lord verh said:So no update to allow split-screen on SDTV's...I know this sucks and all for those in that situation, but we're now 7 years down the line with HDTV support, over 5 years of it being common place. HDTV's are now cheap and the XBox, from day one, has had HD support on PC monitors to make a cheap alternative.
I'd rather a company push on in trying to make a great product through future development than spend their time allowing support for outdated technology. As I said, it sucks if you're in that situation, but it's right for the game. |

I understand peoples frustrations that there was no announcement that splitscreen wouldnt work on SDTVs but i dont get how they would expect it to work anyway, you would have no chance of reading any of the text in splitscreen.
But in terms of "updating" the game to have an SDTV SS mode, maybe you should just "update" your TV to a 21st century one. This is by no means trolling before its said, merely an observation of players not getting the full effect of HD gaming. |

I don't even own an HD TV but I agree with you guys.
I have a TV that uses my component cables so the picture is pretty but no HD |

As people have said, I can't imagine any more than a tiny, tiny, tiny percentage of gamers are now using SD TV's. I've not even SEEN a SD TV in years. I accept that they should have announced it wouldn't be possible, but, is it really that big a deal?
Regardless. Good to see they're putting out the updates like they said they would. Maybe people will stop harking on about the price now. (Still the same as the PC Version...) |

| having never played this game before the xbox release, what are the chances of a possible update with new cheevos? gotta say, seems fairly unlikely as there doesnt seem a goal to go for in the game in order use new cheevs. i.e. completing the DLC etc |
