I don't have one, but I'm looking into getting one. However, I'm happy with my Droid and my current cell phone plan.
Would I be able to pick up a cheap(ish) used Windows Phone, throw it on WiFi, and be able to whore to my heart's content on the WP7 games? Or does the use of the phone's features (most importantly, XBL) absolutely require connectivity to a cell service/data plan? |

| Alot of games require WiFi to download them in first place so there should not be a problem with want you want to do.If all you want the phone for is games then by all means go for it,but if your looking for decent apps etc my personal opinion would be avoid it as the wp7 marketplace is shockingly bad. |

| Nope, I have a friend who just bought a WP off of eBay. (The camera was broke) and he uses it to play the games and get achievements, but his primary phone is an iPhone. No data is needed to play or download the games. |

You would be fine. I have a HTC Titan and when I recieved it the sim card was faulty.
Without a sim card I was still able to download my gamertag onto it and play games. The only you may not know is that you require a credit card linked to your live/zune account to buy games. You cannot buy WP7 games with M$ points. |

You don't even need a SIM card in it - although you will of course get a SIM card missing message each time you boot up the phone.
WP7 phone + WiFi connection + credit card is all you need. Almost...
If you're going to be doing a lot of gaming and don't like being connected to a charger much then consider some spare batteries and an external charger. I got a charger and two batteries for my Lumia 710 for $10 delivered |

Hello Divine Atropos!
If you plan on buying a WP7 strictly to play games on it then you would only need to connect to WiFi.
Via WiFi, you will be able to buy, download, and play these games all without incurring a new data plan, or adding on to your current one. (Just remember not to insert your SIM card).
You do not need a data plan in order to download games, etc. as this is only a feature that makes it more convenient for those who wish to make purchases/download content while on the go. This is similar to a process that you can do with an iPhone. (Connect the iPhone to WiFi, (no SIM inserted), go onto iTunes, buy apps, games, etc.)
Simply turn the phone on, skip the part where it prompts you to insert a SIM card, and go to the phones network/WiFi section, then connect to your WiFi and you will have full access to the marketplace.
Hope this helped,

| I'm pretty useless when it comes to cell phone technology. So if I buy a WP and use it on wifi, do I have to have a plan connected to it at all? |

| Buying without a plan pretty much eliminates the "isn't too pricey" plan, but your best bet for a cheap WP7 is the Lumia 900, and it's a great phone |

| I was sorely tempted to give in and just get the 800 as the 900 has been taking too long but do you think it's better that I wait? |
