Vorpal Smilodon has just submitted some Game Info for http://www.trueachievements.com/Red-Faction-BG-xbox-360.htm:

Genre change from Vehicular Combat to Action
Sub Genre change from Automobile Combat to Shoot 'em up

Vorpal Smilodon said:Not sure why there isn't a twin stick shooter subgenre, but all the other twin-sticks are under "shoot 'em up" as well

Further discussion in other threads has pointed out to me that the team intentionally doesn't have a Twin-stick Shooter subgenre.

Despite that, the game isn't about cars fighting. The game is about various vehicles fighting or checkpoint racing or playing capture the flag, while trying to survive the fire from other vehicles.

The game has two parts, driving and combat. The difference between this and the Arcade Racer genre which you described above is the intent. An Arcade Racer is still a Racer. This game focuses on combat quite heavily and often abstracts or leaves out the racing.

Nevertheless, thank you for your submission!

I certainly wasn't arguing for the game to be classified as a Racer! I was misled partly by the term Automobile, and further by the idea that the game consist of challenges rather than 'combat'. But RF:B certainly fits better in it's currently genre than under minigame collection, which is what the collection of different challenges was leading me towards.

What is the proper venue to argue for 'Automobile Combat' to be changed to 'Ground Combat' in keeping with the naming convention of Aerial and Naval Combat subgenres?

There is none. The semantics would be the same as the term covers most forms of ground based vehicle combat. The term you proposed carries the problem that it is to broad for the issue at hand and could lead to misinterpretations such as the one you, likely, made when submitting changes for Renegade Ops! wink

It doesn't cover tank combat games, though, or the more rare walker vehicles. Strictly speaking, according to the genre info as written Battlezone shouldn't be in the subgenre because you pilot a tank, not a car or land-creature.

What misinterpretation did I make?

Why wouldn't it cover those? I don't see why you draw a line at tanks or walkers (which are mainly grouped under Mech Combat by the way). Don't try to interpret terminology when there really is no need!
