Who needs Third Echelon?
After officially unveiling the newest Splinter Cell title, http://www.trueachievements.com/TCs-Splinter-Cell-Black....htm at Microsoft's E3 conference earlier today, Ubisoft now have even more to offer.
http://www.trueachievements.com/customimages/007182.jpg Now, the developer/publisher has revealed more gameplay footage for the Kinect-enabled, stealth-shooter. Today's second trailer provides a significant amount of details about the upcoming title. Watch the video (below) to find out just what Sam will face in his next mission.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TaySEkuVrbI&feature=plcp If, for some crazy reason, you need reminding of Sam's skills, then check out these details of the game's key features:
Operate without Restrictions - Sam is back in his tactical suit and goggles, and he’s more deadly than ever. He is the only secret operative with the power to act above the law, and uses ruthless methods to interrogate enemies in order to extract crucial information that will prevent the next Blacklist attack. Pursuing the terrorists to the far reaches of the world, Sam flies from exotic locales to U.S. cities as he races against the clock to find out who’s behind the Blacklist. Thrilling gameplay is enhanced by full motion performance capture, creating a highly cinematic experience.
Kill in Motion - Always one step ahead, Killing In Motion lets Sam strike with lethal precision by marking and executing multiple enemies in one fluid motion. Active Sprint allows him to traverse the environment easily and fluidly, climb walls and leap over barriers in order to reach his next target while on the move.
Unleash the power of 4th Echelon Prototypes - Splinter Cell: Blacklist innovates from the roots of the franchise, and players can enjoy a series of twists on franchise favorites including reinvented classic weapons. Infiltrate terrorist cells by using new gadgets such as the upgraded snake cam and micro-trirotor drone which allows Sam to scout ahead, mark targets remotely, distract enemies, or explode with frag grenade force.Splinter Cell Blacklist is also bringing back fan-favorites like the sticky shocker, and for close quarters combat, players can wield the curved and brutal Karambit knife.
Build a New Echelon - With a mandate directly from the President, Sam is building a whole new Echelon unit; his team, his way. Anna “Grim” Grimsdottir is his technical operations manager, CIA operative Isaac Briggs brings additional firepower, and resident hacker Charlie Cole rounds out his support crew. 4th Echelon is a fully mobile ops unit with unlimited resources and cutting edge technology aboard the repurposed stealth airliner, the Paladin.
Enjoy a Fully Integrated Experience - Sam and his team are aware of terrorist attacks in real time thanks to the Strategic Mission Interface (SMI). The SMI allows the team to receive data about mission objectives while on the move. Players can earn money for completing missions and objectives and buy upgraded weapons and items from the SMI hub aboard the Paladin.Splinter Cell: Blacklist will see Sam Fisher return in early 2013. |

| This game is going to be epic. I can't wait. Just slightly sad the voice actor for Sam Fisher isn't the same. :( |

Was hugely excited until I heard Sam's voice in the gameplay video. That is NOT Michael Ironside and It's a huge shame that he's missing from this instalment. Instead what we get is a guy who sounds like a typical boring Hollywood "summer blockbuster action star" with no emotion, no experience, no GRAVEL in his voice.
Sickening. |

I think the Ubisoft press conference was the best so far. I'm really excited for Splinter Cell, Farcry, Assassin's Creed and for the new IP they announced at the end (can't remember the name). All these games are looking pretty awesome.
Without showing gameplay for the game ZombiU, Ubisoft still made me want to buy the Wii U... Rayman looks like a lot of fun too. Can't wait to see Nintendo's press conference. |

| Praying that they haven't turned Spy Vs Merc into some generic class-based shooter clone. It'd actually break my heart more than just not bringing it back at all. |

I might have missed something but I haven't read or seen anything about Spy vs Mercs being included in this game so far.
On a different note, I don't get why they didn't just dump Sam Fisher completely. They haven't got Michael Ironside, the only worthy voice actor, voicing Sam. Besides, Sam is like over 60 years old. They should really pull him from the field and give him a nice and quiet desk job already. I always liked him for his wizened and experienced look as a middle aged man (compared to all the young protagonists out there). But he's seriously getting too old now to still somewhat believably pull of the things he does. If they'd gone with a different protagonist and made this a spiritual successor they could have hit two birds with one stone. Taken the franchise somewhere new all together because they didn't have to haul Sam around.
I don't think I'll be getting this. I was burned on Conviction's storyline killing off Lambert. I saved that man's life at the end of Double Agent. He was with me ever since the beginning and then Ubisoft just killed him. :'( |

| At the very end of the microsoft presentation they said spy vs merc is back. I to hope that it is more about stealth and smart play than a class based shooter. I dont understand why all the mp lately tries to cater to a casual crowd. They have their games give us the old tom clancy type mp experiences please. Ghost recon just isn't even tactical anymore. |

I played both Pandora Tomorrow and then Chaos Theory MP religiously and no game has ever come close to it for me BUT I'd much rather they never ever brought it back than to give it a COD style makeover. |

Ruined is an understatement. I played both Pandora Tomorrow and then Chaos Theory MP religiously and no game has ever come close to it for me BUT I'd much rather they never ever brought it back than to give it a COD style makeover. My bad. Should've paid more attention. I definitely agree with you though. Third person spies vs heavily armed first person mercs is probably the most creative, most genius, most innovative multiplayer I've ever played. My only issue with it was that they could've expanded the player limit to six. Some (great) maps really were too big for just 4 players, *cough* Missile Silo and Vertigo Plaza *cough*.
If you're that nostalgic about it, you should look up http://www.projectstealthgame.com/. It's an indie effort to create a game based on the core gameplay mechanics of spy vs merc. Warning: it has been in development for years though, and a release isn't looking likely any time soon. It's being done entirely by volunteers who, to their credit, want it to remain free of charge. I admire the philanthropism but I think they're kinda stupid. I would gladly pay for it (especially since it isn't coming to console unless they can afford to buy an engine). |

Get off your "hardcore gamer" high horse, kid.I couldn't agree with crooked444 more. Kinect is great for 12 year olds but has no real place in grown up gaming. Just look at Fable, I have loved the first three Fable games but, sadly, can not play Fable: The Journey as it requires Kinect. Plus, the swinging my arms around and yelling "Fire" will never match the speed and precision of my thumbs and trigger finger.
On Topic: I can't wait for the next installment of Splinter Cell, if I didn't have a dislocated knee, I would be jumping up and down right now. It does suck that Sam won't be voiced by Ironside but I'll cope. :] |

Whoa, wait a mother f***ing second! Michael Ironside isn't playing Sam Fisher?!
Oh F**K THIS GAME!
I just thought that it wasn't Michael Ironside because it was a demo; because even Grim isn't the same voice actress. I'm just gonna pray that it was because it's a demo...
Oh and I gotta say that I agree with Mr XBob on the Kinect issue. If it's completely optional than why even bitch about it? Like he said: "Get off your "hardcore gamer" high horse." |
