Hey guys. I was curious if any of you have had this issue before.
When I sign on to Live, the dashboard seems to have noticable lag to it. Everything from loading friends lists to apps to quick play seems to take upwards of 20 seconds or so.
I've tried the following
1. Cleared the drive cache. 2. Made sure I had all the proper ports open in my router.
What I've heard from other sources is that it might be a good idea to back up the save files to a USB key and format the hard drive ( corrupt ). I'd rather not have to do that, but will if that is the only solution left.
By the way this is a newer Xbox slim. I've had it about a year now. |

Yup, this happens to me constantly on my 5 month old S console. Everything takes around a minute to populate. I get that damn spinning circle too much!
Do you have a kinect connected? I've noticed without a kinect connected, this tends not to happen. |

| I have this happen all the time - it's that every time it goes and tries to re-download every image and re-verify every licence and it's constantly downloading the latest advertising. It's *really* bad when you have 230+ games installed... literally it can take 3-5 minutes to populate on a slow connection. Even on a fast one it takes at least 1-2 for the "My Games" list. |

| Yup I sure do have a Kinect hooked up. I'll try unhooking it tonight and see if that might be the issue. I don't really use it anyway. |

| Since you have one connected, the lag is likely from the Kinect scanning. Every time I go to the dashboard, it takes a while to load, and I've noticed the Kinect starts scanning up and down right when I get to dashboard. And right when it stops scanning, my dashboard loads and I have no more issues. |

| Yup kinect restarts when you exit to dash and start up, takes a while. |
Normality has resumed in the crazed mind of a nutjob |

Kinect slows the dashboard down a lot. You don't have to unplug it though.
If you goto Settings -> Kinect, you can turn the sensor off from there. For some stupid reason it doesn't automatically turn back on when you load a kinect title, so you'll have to go back into the settings and turn in on manually every time you want to use it. Still, itseasier than having to plug it back in. |

Howdy,
Do you know your internet speed, in terms of Mbps? Might be able to help once I know.
Thanks |

JMJimmy said:Not sure about the OP but mine is 25mbps down 7mbps up.25Mbps is more than enough. The reason I asked was due to the fact that I have heard of people with < 10Mbps having issues with their dashboard lagging. This is most likely caused from the ads that run flash, and constantly resend packets to refresh the "video ads" every 20-30 seconds. Personally, I am deeply disturbed to hear people say these types of things because ads seem to be overwhelming our dashboards now-a-days. If Microsoft is going to charge us $60-70 a year for membership, we shouldn't have to be exposed to ads, especially ones which do not relate to games (e.g. McDonalds ad). JMJimmy, if you do have a Kinect, make sure it is not set to show in the dashboard background, in which case a perfect solution has been provided already (see below).

Good luck to all who encounter this issue,
PhantomMine is completely unreleated to Kinect. Happens when it's unplugged as well. It's the DRM and image downloads every time. It's like no one bothered to test the dashboard with a sizable game collection. |

Do you mean you have this many games installed, or downloaded? (Installed, as in installing a retail game on your HDD). (Downloaded, as in XBLA games, etc). |
