A glimpse at what future games will look like
Obviously, the fact that you're here at TA means that you're a savvy gamer who understands the importance of things like game engines. These powerful pieces of tech provide the backbone upon which our favorite games are molded.
For most people, if they're going to know one game engine, it's bound to be Epic's Unreal Engine, which has been used in a wide variety of games ranging from Alice: Madness Returns to Zumba Fitness, and of course been used to create Epic titles such as Unreal Tournament 3 and Gears of War 3.
As time marches on, it becomes necessary to create bigger and more powerful game engines, and that time has come for the Unreal Engine, which is about to enter its fourth iteration. To show off the new technology, Epic has released a pair of videos showcasing the Unreal Engine 4 - one featuring a beautifully-rendered in-game cinematic, and the other featuring Epic Games' Senior Technical Artist, Alan Willard, providing a real-time tech demo.

What are your thoughts on Unreal Engine 4? Do any of you have experience with the engine and are excited about the improvements that are coming? What games do you think will be amongst the first to utilize it? |

Buffering...
I love new tech. The lighting in video games is what makes or breaks it for me and if you get it as close to reality as technologically possible, then I am always in awe. |
Job & A Social Life, achievements most gamers refuse to earn...therefore, their ratios are high. |

| These videos meant nothing to me. I want to understand them though. If I'm honest the first video was no different than any cutscene in today's big budget games. I guess the draw is though it's all real-time, not pre-rendered. Some cool lighting effects but all that means is games are going to get greyer and greyer. |

In the end, it all depends on how well each developer utilizes the features. It looks great, but the whole point of a tech demo is to show off the engine's high-end capabilities.
I'm also getting sick of lens flare. While human eyes do occasionally experience lens flare, it's nowhere near as common as the usage in most games. |

| the new unreal 4 engine looks amazing. I hope the developers with appreciate all the changes and make great games with this engine. I also hope it will reduce production time. Looks like a great engine to make a game in. |

From a layman's point of view, highlighting the different effects individually helped me to focus on and appreciate each one more than the combined sequence did. |
