The time has come for the dominium of MOBA
Monolith Productions, developers of Gotham City Impostors, have been working to bring another tie-in game to XBLA, this time based on J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-Earth-based fantasy books The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.
A DOTA-esque MOBA game (that's 'Defence of the Ancients' and 'Multiplayer Online Battle Arena' to those of us who are confounded by those acronyms), Guardians of Middle-Earth aims to bring the most powerful heroes from the fantasy epic together in almighty clashes, presumably in an effort to finally answer age-old questions such as 'if Gandalf and Gollum teamed up against Sauron face-to-face: who would win?'
Following the recent announcement trailer, a few details have been released on the game's official website giving us a clearer idea of what to expect from the game:
•Enter the fray in epic 5 versus 5 engagements with live players or AI combatants
•Fight as over 20 iconic guardians from Middle-Earth — each with different strengths and abilities to develop and master
•Purchase items and buffs between matches using in-game currency earned through combat
•Track victories and defeats at any time through stat and leaderboard systems
•Coordinate with allies using in-game voice communication for a uniquely social Multiplayer Online Battle Arena experience
•Engage in the continuing conflict over Middle-earth with new guardians to be revealed post launch, with several released in conjunction with The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey motion picture to deliver gamers a deeper connection to Peter Jackson's epic filmThe currently revealed characters are Gollum, Gandalf, Uglúk the Uruk-hai and Thráin the Dwarf and, as the details above mention, keep an eye (of Sauron) out on the official website or here on TA as more are revealed -- some even after the game has launched.

Guardians of Middle-Earth is set to release on actual Earth in the Fall of 2012 .

| This could actually be really good, I reckon LOTR suits this style of game well, and since they clearly can't make proper LOTR action games any more...I'm happy with this! |
