Entrants are public, you may go back to the contest thread and go over them yourself to see the pool that this was selected from as a winner. Needless to say, there is no grand conspiracy at play here other then oddly enough, every time there's a contest (even one that's done randomly), there's someone "hinting" at collusion. |

It will say in the entry posting which process is being used for that contest.Oh okay. I see in this case it says "The winner will be chosen by a panel of Newshounds" in the original post. Did none of you guys know that FEAR (or either of it's sequels) is already the name of a video game?Of course.
That lets you know the overall quality level (as I mentioned just after this post) of the entrants.
There is a reason I did not vote, and others did so begrudgingly. I fear (HA!) I may be too honest, but no one was happy with the pool of entrants for this contest. Shame too, as the last one (the May Monthly contest) had TOO MANY great entrants. |

You also used the word unimaginative? Was that ironic? |

I assumed since whis was the chosen winner the voting commitee were a bunch of comedians. |

This is so fixed lol i dont see the point in this anymore. F.E.A.R is a fucking game, F.S.D.C, Wheres the E,A,R.
And they say The winner is selected by a rather large committee, yeh ok then, But if the Newshounds Think this works then good for them.
Theres so many better names out there then this one. |

I also did not vote on a winner and can not speak for why it won over others, just explaining why I didn't vote for this contest.
Personally, the thing to keep in mind, is that it's great that there's a policy over giving away the review copy to the community. No one makes the staff do that and we're coming up on one year of giving right back to the community. No matter who wins, why they win or how they win, at the end of the day, I'm always happy to see a review copy get a happy home. |

Congrats to the winner i guess. Even if the entrants were as bad as Dog of Thunder says, it would have been nice to see a horrible original one over a copy of a game title.
I never win those things and i couldn't think of a good one so i just picked the first thing that came to mind (even though i admit it was pretty stupid)........I guess there were allot of people who did the same? Shows how unimaginative us gamers are i guess |

When in doubt, try to come up with something that will make us laugh.
The amount of literal entries that were, while not taken from existing games, still wholly unoriginal (ArseKickers, Death, Wolfpac, etc.) are not likely to win. With the sheer number of entries, something that will stick out and be remembered is always best. FEAR mixed with a Pokemon reference at least stuck out.
I can only speak for myself, but humor always appeals to me. If someone had gone a different direction, and suggested something along the lines of the "Brony Assault Force", "The Red Shirts" or "That one quote everyone attributes to Oppenheimer but is actually from Hinduism....you know...that quote..."
My personal favorite? The Infocom classic, "Leather clad Babes of Phobos".
But I am only one of about 20 votes, so take my advice with a grain of salt. |

Chaos Mythology said:Make all contests a Public vote and show us the pollsIf there were no prizes involved i would agree with public polls, but with prizes i personally don't think it should be the users deciding the winner lol.
Plus, regulating something like that would be hell for who ever is in charge........ |

Chaos Mythology said:Make all contests a Public vote and show us the pollsSo you want to task the community with looking through 23 pages of entries and pick the best one? How would votes be tabulated/verified? Who's going to be responsible for counting those votes?
Or would you rather a Newshound panel select a short list to vote upon only to have more community members (like yourself, for instance) complain about how the entire process is rigged, not fair, unoriginal, and/or *insert complaint of choice here*.
In short, there's no way to make everyone happy here and there will always be complaining about contests that have subjective (or even objective) winners.
In my opinion we should all be grateful that TA (unlike other outlets) actually gives our review copies away to the community. |

| If most of the jury was so displeased with the entries, they could have used random and that's it. At least there would be no tinfoil hat discussions about it now xD |
