One game appears out of nowhere this week, almost like...
I'll admit, I know nothing about Magic: The Gathering. On the nerd spectrum, I'm more of a sci-fi nerd than a fantasy nerd, so the whole D & D, Lord of the Rings, Magic scene never caught my eye. For those of you that do rub sulfur into your wounds, this week's sole release should make you happier than a Planeswalker who just pulled a Psychatog in his latest pack.
Magic: The Gathering - DotP 2013 Developer: Stainless Games Publisher: Wizards of the Coast Price: 800 MSPFace a greater challenge in the latest version of this hit franchise. Play with friends or the AI, take on new encounters and opponents, and face up to three other players in the Planechase multiplayer format. Featuring ten customizable decks, Magic 2013 offers new game items to unlock and introduces the option to choose what lands to tap when you cast your spells.Edit: We have a completely unexpected late arrival this week. This game wasn't due to be released until June 27th but makes an appearance a week early.
Jeremy McGrath's Offroad Developer: 2XL Games Publisher: D3Publisher Price: 800 MSPIn Jeremy McGrath’s Offroad, players race four-wheeled 800 horsepower off road race trucks with tons of options including a host of tracks, single-player and multiplayer modes as well as a wide loadout of vehicle classes including Rally Cars, Pro Buggies, and Trophylite Trucks, all in crispy 1080p, 60 frames per second presentation. With multiplayer support for eight racers and a full career mode, Jeremy McGrath’s Offroad will be the title for racing fans who want to get down and dirty on the track! |

"introduces the option to choose what lands to tap when you cast your spells"
I'm sure there was a similar option in Magic 1 for Xbox360... or maybe it was damage distribution?
It's funny that they talk about this option in an official statement to convince us to buy the game. It's not THAT important :) |

This is a very important new featureyeah being able to tap what ever lands i want is in fact an important feature do to the fact that if i play my cards in a different order the game will tap the wrong lands. like say i needed 1 plain to use an ability on a card on the battlefield it would tap it as if the game thought i didnt need it. so i like that they added this feature |

Biggest release of the year for us. Here's to another 100 hours of turning creatures sideways virtually. Its not really a fantasy game, it just uses more art from that than scifi, and the digital versions are great for beginning with.
And yeah - on the MTG forums manual tapping was their big moan about the last one. Wonder what it will be this time?
Expect a full DLC menu by ths time next year. |

OT: I'm a huge fan of the digital game and highly recommend it to anyone. It's not fantasy. It's a pure strategy game with fantasy visuals. I probably won't be waiting for a discount on this one. And anyone who knows me knows I am a cheap ass bastard. So ya, it's that fun. |

Job & A Social Life, achievements most gamers refuse to earn...therefore, their ratios are high. |

As far as I know, I'm the only 'Hound that has kept up with modern Magic (HA! Literally!). I'm stoked about the return to Ravnica and hopefully some more juice for my Boros deck and my Dimir deck. |

lord verh said:Still strange that it hast 2013 in the title. Must have really.Standard marketing procedure, use the date of the week/month/year that is following the actual week/month/year. The idea is that if you put the current time on your product, people may accidentally believe they are purchasing an old product if part of the time it is prescribed for has already elapsed. If, for example, you today release a monthly product in June and call it the "June edition", people may think it is an old copy, and the news contained within it is 18 days old. If you however call it a "July edition", it's lifespan in the eyes of the consumer will last it the entire month of June into the early parts of July.
You see the same thing all the time with sports video games. Heck, I'm fairly certain Tiger Woods '13 was released in March but still carried next year's number on it. |
I miss the good old days of WW2 Call of Duty |

| lord verh said:Still strange that it hast 2013 in the title. Must have really. As I mentioned in a different thread on this game, it's because the cards found in the 2013 Core Set are for the 2013 tournament season (which actually starts in Fall of '12). It's no different then other sports, such as the NBA where the season starts in October of one year but the championship is in June of the following year. |
