First, I've never recovered a gamertag before but if its not please let me know...
Anyhow my plan...
I'm about to start the long grind on Forza 3 for Gold Medals on all races and a) Its way to monotonous to do on my own and b) way too time consuming... but there’s a pretty easy work around by hiring a driver to do it for you. Now, I'm not too keen on leaving my brand new 360 on when I'm not around as I would like to play other games while this is happening... but I do have an old system laying around.
So, I figured I would move my saves over, recovering my gamertag (putting it on an old style memory card so its easy to remove from the system when the time is needed), unplugging it from the internet, and letting the AI driver go around while I play on my other system (while on the internet.) I would do it this way till it was time to timestamp the achievement at which point I would go to the real copy of my gamertag.
The thing is... Am I forgetting anything or not?
Also, out of curiosity... If you have two copies of your profile how does XBL know which one is current and which achievements are 'real' Do they both get uploaded and the achievements get combined or does one overwrite the other?
Does Microsoft care about this sort of thing? (Does the True Achievement community care about this sort of thing too?)
I think that's all my questions for now... |

Yep, the recovery system has changed now. You can 'download' your tag to multiple consoles and then sign in to whichever you want without the need to keep moving your profile around. You choose whether you want the console to remember your password or whether to be prompted to enter it each time (i.e. at a friend's house).
Only one can be signed into XBL at a time, if you go online at a 2nd console, the 1st one will be disconnected automatically.
Can't see any reason why you can't work offline on an achievement whilst playing online for another. Just make sure if you pop any achievements offline you connect as soon as possible to update your card. |

Achievements still count? As I read the answers it seems to be that way... Though I'm unlocking all achievements on one of the two accounts. |

There aren't two accounts, just two versions of the same account on multiple consoles. My account is active on two consoles and I regularly play and pop achievements on both - always online.
I'd be wary of popping achievements offline and online simultaneously, that's probably asking for trouble (I haven't tested it, and don't want to either).
Will be fine making progress offline and signing in before the pop. If you do have to pop something offline, sign that profile in properly to update your card before doing anything else online on the other console - again just to be on the safe side. |

| Same account cannot be active online on the same time, April. Everything else you said sounds about right, especially the last paragraph explains it good. |
