| Every so often I hear people complain about the "long ass updates" on the PS3. What is the technical reason why the Xbox downloads like 200mb updates in a quaint little 5mb download? |

| Because they have much more frequent updates than the PS3 I assume, so the Xbox gets the same size update in multiple, smaller pieces. A lot of Xbox updates are "in preparation" for a bigger update. |
I miss the good old days of WW2 Call of Duty |

For System updates. Its still a large download, but unlike the PS3 which downloads the entire flash file which is then written in entirety, the xbox downloads a delta change and is then able to specifically update just the parts of the flash which require to be updated.. EG, the video of the 360 logo on bootup? that hasn't changed, so its not included in the download. |

Not 100% sure, but I think there's a size restriction for a game patch (what happens when you get kicked off LIVE and prompted to update your game). This size restriction isn't enforced if it's something you download manually (like Battlefield 3's update).
Does that make sense? Does it answer your question? |
