So, we've got this new character who hangs out on oil rigs. What to call him...
Introducing Rig, a new character that has just been revealed for Team Ninja and Tecmo Koei's upcoming fighter Dead or Alive 5. http://www.trueachievements.com/customimages/008295.jpg A natural born fighter, he has used his powerful instincts to master the art of taekwondo. He has run the oil rig from a young age, and his colleagues simply call him "Rig." But even he doesn't know his real name or where he comes from. He learned taekwondo on the oil rig, which led him to create his own style, with plenty of moves he came up with himself.Right, because taekwondo is just the thing to divert you on the lonely days on an oil rig...
As well as the previous render and bio, we've also been treated to an exclusive character trailer and screens that showcase Rig in action on his oil rig against two series regulars: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfMzHMZJoiQ First up, Christie faces Rig after encountering him in a bar. I guess spending so long on an oil rig has left him a little rusty with his chat-up lines: http://www.trueachievements.com/customimages/008296.jpg http://www.trueachievements.com/customimages/008279.jpg http://www.trueachievements.com/customimages/008286.jpg http://www.trueachievements.com/customimages/008287.jpg http://www.trueachievements.com/customimages/008288.jpg http://www.trueachievements.com/customimages/008289.jpg Next, Rig makes the mistake of insulting fellow rigger Bass's beloved bike: http://www.trueachievements.com/customimages/008278.jpg http://www.trueachievements.com/customimages/008280.jpg http://www.trueachievements.com/customimages/008281.jpg http://www.trueachievements.com/customimages/008282.jpg http://www.trueachievements.com/customimages/008283.jpg http://www.trueachievements.com/customimages/008284.jpg http://www.trueachievements.com/customimages/008285.jpg http://www.trueachievements.com/customimages/008297.jpg It's okay though, they're just play-fighting and end up walking away together; no doubt to practise some other rigging past-times, like needlework or hacky sack: http://www.trueachievements.com/customimages/008290.jpg As well as all this Rig-related goodness, we've also been treated to some screens showcasing the oil rig location, a Bass render and some images showing the game's new photo mode. http://www.trueachievements.com/customimages/008291.jpg http://www.trueachievements.com/customimages/008292.jpg http://www.trueachievements.com/customimages/008277.jpg http://www.trueachievements.com/customimages/008293.jpg http://www.trueachievements.com/customimages/008294.jpg

| I've never really liked these types of games. To boring and not much replay value in my opinion. Screens look nice though. |

It is common knowledge that DoA games are HARD and take a lot of time (DoA4 and Xtreme). Most fighting-genre games have some crazy achvs, but to make a purchase decision on a previous version that came out SIX YEARS AGO seems a bit dumb...at least wait until the achv list is released, then if the game looks too difficult for you, don't buy it. |

I am all about difficult achievements. See my Motionsports completion if you doubt =]. I really just hate the DOA series as a whole. And the survival mode achievements from the last iteration were simply the straw that broke the camel's back. I would never avoid a game based completely on its achievements. Playing one based solely on that *cough* Avatar *cough* is another story! Lol
Also, what's with the name-calling? Can we really not be civil when there's a difference of opinion? |

| I loved the fact that achievements in DOA4 were tough. It made the game last longer for me, and every time I failed in Survival, I saw it as a training session and ended up learning new combos and such through constantly trying. I really hope the achievements in this one will be pretty tough, as most fighting games are, to give me more replay value. That being said I'll be playing this and Tekken Tag 2 for quite some time regardless, since I'm not stupid enough to judge a game based on it's achievements. Some people like easy games they can run through and get 1000G and be 'proud' of it, whereas others prefer going for 100% on a tough game. Personally, I like the challenging achievements, but that's just me. |

I can understand not liking a particular series or thier accompanying achievements, but when you post on a thread about said series about how you "hate the DOA series as a whole" you should probably expect some flak. I'm not saying name-calling is appropriate, but it's an expected reaction.
OT: Can't wait for release date; been way too long since DOA4. Still very happy that Jann hasn't been confirmed on the roster. That punk has always been my DOA kryptonite with Hitomi a close second. Glad to see a new addition to the "family" in Rig. We'll see if he's got the stuff to stand up to my Ayane... |

Guess which one DOA 4 falls into.

If I had known what shitty achievements (aside from everything else that was shitty about it) were in Star Ocean, prior to purchasing it, I would not have gotten it. Had I known what absolute shit achievements were in DOA 4, I probably would've still gotten it (the ending movies are funny and so that I'd have all the games), but played it on a secondary account.
I do not like seeing uncompleted things due to a slight case of OCD and there's WAY too much to do in life to grind out the excessive achievements in each of those.
I find it kinda funny that the pics they put up of Christie were taken at just the right angles to prevent upskirts, despite that being one of the things DOA is known for. |

From the looks of it upskirts will be a thing of the past, all the gameplay videos show the girls now have longer magical skirts that hinder the fanservice the game is known for.
That being said, I'm looking forward to see how this turns out with the new team ninja. They better introduce Leon and Ein. |

| I see no one's mentioned that Rigs beats Christie unconscious and walks away, alone, and then fights Bass and walks away buddy-buddy, arm in arm. I think we've just seen DOA's first official male homosexual pairing. |
There is no "I" in "team." There also isn't a "u," a "we," an "us," or a "them," so who's playing? |

| This thread is really pathetic, seeing people say that they won't play some games (a lot of which really aren't even that hard) just because the achievements are hard. Tells the world you're not actually playing games to enjoy them at all, but merely quest after what games are easy to add an unimportant number to the denomination following your gamertag. |

I tend to avoid games that I can't complete. Since achievements are part of a game, unnecessarily hard or glitched achievements make me not want to play certain games. However (and this may sound strange to those of you who get mad about people who won't play games because of hard achievements), I actually do have fun playing games.
And guess what? If a game has elements that are difficult to complete, but aren't actually achievements, I still take issues. This means that it could be an NES game, for example. That is, it's not a "social" issue with me.
Perhaps those that are judging may take a moment to think about the fact that, just because someone is avoiding a game because of hard achievements, doesn't mean they're doing it because they don't want to mar their e-peen. |
