I have faced situations where I wanted to create a session for me and at least one other player as it was needed to start the game mode. I was however completely indifferent if more joined. Sometimes for team based game modes this is the case. I did not want to specify, say, 4 players as it would give the impression that 4 were needed for the session to start. I could have said in the description but players rarely read those unfortunately.
So what I'd like to propose is for a session host to specify a range. Say 2 players minimum needed to start and up to a certain number he feels comfortable with managing. Along with that change, the message about players would need to change. "X gamers required" is fine for the minimum. Once it hits 0, the string could be expanded to "0 gamers required, Y gamers accepted" or something similar.
I believe this could also somewhat be used to accept some backup players into sessions. For example by stating the number of backup slots in a field which are automatically added as optional players to the maximum number of allowed players.
P.S.: This is somewhat related to Session ideas - minor tweaks |
